Microsoft essentially owns the PC Market because of Windows

NeoGamer2322236d ago

They own the Windows platform. And the Windows platform is the dominate platform for PCs. But there is nothing stopping anyone from installing other platforms. That is not true of any other major device platform. Android devices require an Android variant to be on them, Apple devices require iOS on them. Sony Consoles require the Sony Firmware, same with Nintendo and XB consoles.

The PC world is the only device platform in the world where more than one base platform is allowed on the device... There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone stopping a PC user from installing Linux or any other PC OS.

"There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone stopping a PC user from installing Linux or any other PC OS." as a gamer that is absolute bull. Good luck finding a good assortment of games that dn't require windows to play on your PC.

Microsoft owns Windows not the pc market. That's steam, etc...

DillyDilly2236d ago

There is no Steam without Windows as Windows is the dominate platform. Take Steam out of Windows & who the hell is gonna use it ?

DeadlyFire2236d ago

Dilly. You do know Steam is on Mac OSX and Linux as well right?

ElementX2236d ago (Edited 2236d ago )

According to Steam user stats, Linux users comprise only 0.81%, Mac OS is 3.06%, Windows users make up 96.12% of Steam users.

Origin, Uplay, GoG ect? Microsoft makes zero money when it's sold on other platforms, it's completely irreverent since nobody uses the Microsoft store, why do you think the Master Chief collection is coming to Steam?

Windows aint allowed a cent of cash from steam sales. Owns nothing hahaha

timlot2236d ago

Hmm, this thinking reminds me of a scene in Silicon Pirates between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Microsoft is getting money up and down the food chain. From game developers using windows computers and development tools like Havok to 97% of consumers using window to access steam. Chess and checkers.

Eonjay2236d ago

Now if only the average consumer could support HoloLens as well.

Greatness knows greatness. Simple as that. Expedition 33 is a masterpiece, built with a smaller team and with a smaller budget, blowing ubisoft out of the water. It doesn't matter how many devs you have and how much money you throw at it, great studios like Sandfall Interactive will always overcome you.
