Basically it's a above average game. Regardless of who is reviewing it. It's ok though cuz PS4 has a lot of games and still coming.

I mean if 3/5 Sony games are great and 2/5 games are average or above, that's a pretty good success in my book.

Reviews are subjective. They always have been. It's best to learn as much as possible about a game you're interested in and follow your own instincts about whether to buy it. The scores are pretty mixed, but it's still hovering at an average that's considered to represent a good game. Ultimately use your own judgement.

The reviews are pretty universally mediocre. Let's not circle the wagons and polish turds here. Sometimes games are flops. It looks like there's a reason Sony didn't hype this. I mean it doesn't look *bad*...but it just sounds like (as many feared) it's very generic. Likely will settle around a 70-75 on MC. I was really hyped for it when they showed the gameplay demo a few years back with literally hundreds of zombies chasing the player around some rural structures, but I've been worried for quite some time that THAT game never came to fruition and they went a more mundane route.

Well LittleBigPlanet 3 was broken, so that's probably what it deserved. But yes she gave way too high of a score to Rise of the Tomb Raider, absolutely rubbish game. I wasn't a big fan of Uncharted 4, but it was undoubtedly 10 times better than ROTR.

Great concept just not my style of game. and the part of rise of the tomb raider I enjoyed more than uncharted 4 was the fact that they kept adding content. Well you said this gen, whether they were the very first or very last it includes all. Also I think you're going too broad with your assumptions. Sony is a publisher, yes they have first party studios and yes they manage them and ensure a certain quality is maintained but they are not a developer, they mainly make the investing/marketing decisions. There's no "groove" per se, the individual developers have a lot of autonomy in how they make their games, they should get the credit whether it's good or bad.

The motorbikes and fast zombie hordes are a unique combination I'd say, but I'll agree that these scores aren't surprising after seeing the human combat. I was still hopeful the zombies would carry it though. We haven't really seen a great zombie game since the Left 4 Dead series, from what I can recall.

Agreed, one of the worst rated ps4 games “The Order 1886” was actually one of my favorites. I enjoyed it. Probably will enjoy this as well. Got it preloaded and ready to go! At the end of the day, a review score is biased. Doesn’t matter how good the score or bad it’s based on personal opinion and preference. While I hope that the games I have my eye on review well, it’s not the scores that lead to my purchase and I’m glad others like yourself have that same mentality rather than allowing others to make their decisions for them.

I think there is a difference with a game getting universally criticized vs a game that seems to be getting decent scores. 6.5 - 8.5 seems a healthy enough swing that you stand a chance of enjoying it and it comes down to your personal preference.

I don't discount the need for reviews as it gives us an idea of where a game sits. A game that gets 5's across the board basically confirms that the game is no good, like a game that gets 9's and 10's indicates a quality title. Here is isn't as cut and dry as it seems like you will either like it or you won't.

I thought it would be a bit higher based on many of the media previews. But right now it's still early in the review releases, and I'm not one to think that 7 average is a bad score. I'll be playing it either way. They went from minor interest since the reveal because I'm not.much into zombie games, to making me very interested enough to play it. I was hoping for a great new cornerstone ip, but I'm ok with a good game. The concept of Days Gone interests me, but in our current gaming culture, it takes more than interest to get me to fork money over. I'll pick this up when the price is lower and my backlog is less. I'd rely more on general forum discussion from people who play it. You're around on forums enough to know who can give an opinion without too much bias. I'll probably try playing it this weekend myself, and you and I do have a lot of similar tastes in games.

Oh I often put more weight in the consensus from people who play it. There's been numerous times I personally love a game that doesn't review all that well. People are also often quick to curse the clouds the moment a game dips below an 8 when they see a review score, which I find just, ridiculous.

There needs to be a serious discussion in the industry about game design, why are so many developers just happy to copy and paste systems and mechanics with little or no innovation? Where have all the creative western game designers gone? Even God Of War, very good game that is it has some awful design decisions such as the enemy and boss variety and the pointless leveling system.

She points out its a drag to get from A to B with bike repairs , so are you saying if or when you play the game you just want to able to balst past everything and nothing ever breaks on your bike.
If so your missing the entire point of the game also, explore, bike gets damaged, rummage for parts to fix bike while a story unfolds. Pretty simple and effective gameplay mechanics if you ask me.

We know the point of the bike's "fragility" is to add pressure so that things don't become to casual. "The world comes for you" (even the bike) I'm pretty sure Lucy is smart enough to understand that concept, but for her, it would have been more fun for if she could run down some stray dudes with her bike with a degree of impunity.

Reviews should always be taken with a grain of salt. They always rush the game, get their info wrong a lot or claim they can't do this in the game, only for people to proof their wrong. This game is probably way better compared to the score it's been acknowledged. Since day one this game was met with unfair criticism: It's another generic Zombie game, Sony seems to only do open world game now, etc...
So already from the start, the game was already reviewed as average.

The opposite could be Spiderman on PS4 that since day 1 it was branded game of the year and no matter how generic the map, side missions, and NPC are (like this game) it was already reviewed as a near perfect game.

I think this review is probably closest to how I'd find the game. Ok but not great. I would have preferred it to be another top class exclusive but it isn't and that's fine. It'll still sell well and maybe the sequel, if there is one, will be much better and cement the series as a solid new IP.

Overhyped garbage as usual. Remember this moment when watching E3 this year. Most of what you're seeing is smoke and mirrors that will end up being 6 and 7 rated games.

The amount of PS4 players in denial right here that they cant have a game on their apparently 'golden console' rated so poorly is laughable.

These are the very same people that slammed Microsoft with Crackdown 3 and admittedly some less than stellar releases this gen from Xbox. It happens. People need to realize that bad releases do happen and not tear the console they don't own to shreds every time. Both companies put out good and bad stuff. Competition is good for the industry and everyone, and means one company won't just take advantage of their fans.

Interestingly this did look good and seemed like it would do well, so not sure where it went wrong.

Hopefully it'll make it's money back, but something about it never really pulled me in.

Zombies look good and such, but I think it's the characters that have to gel with you.

Graphics look good and it's running on Unreal 4.

Im two hours in the game and my first impressions are that its a beutifull game, and the soundtrack and effects are really good. The gameplay is fun and the world are interesting. Im definetley having more fun with Days gone than i had with RDR2. But im not saying its a better game!
My negatives about the game is that i feel that the whole mc culture thing is kinda cringe, riding a bike is fun, but its more the attitude thats cringe. The voice acting is good but there are some wierd clipping. Like having a cutscene and then get to play 30 seconds to have another cutscene.

Overall a fun game, if you dont have anything else to play right now i would recommend it. Otherwise pick it up on a sale later on.

Did Sony not pay enough for better reviews? Ive seen much worse games get higher scores. Or maybe the Sony exclusive formula is finally getting tiresome for everyone and not just me.

I'll be the judge of later tonight. I have hundreds of games, not all are 10s. But I enjoyed them nonetheless.
