The Age of Xbox

Paul writes: "Getting older has many downsides. One is that I have accrued so many pet hates, that I now need a zoo to accommodate them all. But taking pride of place in the centre of my hate zoo (which, by the way, is not a nice place to visit) is the predictable, condescending response I get when I reveal my passion for gaming."

Nobody should ever be ashamed of their love for the gaming medium

“First, the revenue angle. In fiscal year 2018 (which ended in the USA on June 30, 2018), Microsoft alone reported earnings of $10 Billion. That’s billion, with a capital B. And that’s Microsoft, whom we are led to believe have spent this console generation gazing wistfully at how well Sony are doing. Which, it must be said, is very nice indeed. Sony’s PSN generated $12.5 Billion in the 2018 financial year. For clarity, that’s the PSN store. Alone. Not consoles, not peripherals, not disk based sales. Just PSN. It speaks volumes that Microsoft’s $10 Billion suddenly looks tawdry by comparison.”

Idk how anybody can look at the industry leaders of this medium make so much and still believe that it caters primarily to children.

When you dont invest in exclusives like ps 4 does its easy to make billions off the hard work of 3rd party games, game passes best games are from 3rd party, microsoft this gen brought nothing new to the game (ip's), sony, on the other hand, created the decima engine, tons of exclusive ps4 only games and i can go on and on, xboxone this gen is irrelevant. I really wish xbox gave me a reason to own besides the late arriving X which microsoft themselves ignore power wise, they could of blew us away with crackdown 3 but they chose the lazy route.

What has that got to do with the article or the OP? Way to go being totally off topic and bring your own agenda into it. Can't believe people are up-voting you.

Teenagers certainly make up a significant portion of the userbase. But those are usually the people just playing COD and Fortnite all year. They're not really the ones going out buying all the singleplayer games and the indies. The actual buying market is so much bigger than just the teenagers.

As far as young children go? Yeah, I mean they're out there. They play games. But I think they're a far smaller segment than people think they are.

I just wish we got more games designed for adults. Games with a bit more maturity in themes and subject matter, and with a bit more sophistication and complexity.

Xboxone and live make a killing selling online access to fortnite and apex, sony and nintendo let u play totally free.

Kids spend a lot of money too. Or at least people spend a lot of money on their kids. Those Pokeballs, or those little dolls in a ball thing that are popular now sell tens of millions, at $5-20 bucks a pop.

"Pet hates"? In my day, whipersnapper, we called them pet peeves.

jznrpg1864d ago

PoSTedUP1864d ago

Was Hogwarts Legacy Only Successful Because Of Nostalgia?

Shahmeer from eXputer: "I've always wondered whether the success of Hogwarts Legacy had much to do with nostalgia. The RPG is great but certainly not free of issues."

I totally agree, and no replay value for sure but enjoyed every minute I was playing it. Not a Harry Potter fan but still really enjoyed

Lexreborn22h ago

I still haven’t finished it, mostly due to it not holding my interest after 20 hours. Wouldn’t say it’s a bad game, wouldn’t say it’s amazing I really can’t judge it fully due to not completing it.

CrimsonWing692h ago

Harry Potter is one of the biggest IPs in the world. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why it sold so much. It’s a great game on top of that, so the math kind of maths here.

Can’t wait for the article on if Zelda or Mario only sold well due to nostalgia.

Tzuno1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

ngl, it got me in the first half hour
after that, a big let down, mediocre at every step
only fans are praising it

Markdn58m ago

In what way was it mediocre, can't really find anything about it that was mediocre and I'm not a hp fan

Demetrius1h ago

It's still a good game almost time for a 2nd playthrough, the passion they put into it is🔥🔥 crazy how after a couple months or a year folks get to complaining about this n that about certain games smh childish mfs
