What about the System Shock Remake?

Double_O_Revan2248d ago

It's still coming. It had that set back where they needed to restructure, but they got back on track.

Neonridr2248d ago

yeah they went from using an engine they were capable with to switching to another engine when nobody asked them to. Honestly it was a mess for a little while. Glad to see they are back on track though.

I REALLY want to play the SS games, waiting for the remasters. Bioshock is my goat.

MadLad2248d ago

Highly different experiences, even if one inspired the other.
System Shock is like Bioshock on steroids, in terms of depth and mechanics.
Love both for their own merits though.

Smokehouse2248d ago

So I heard. Less emphasis on story and more on choice. I love these kinds of “immersive sim” games though so I already know I will like it.

I_am_Batman2248d ago

Why even wait for the remake If you REALLY want to play them? System Shock Enhanced Edition and System Shock 2 are 10€ each on Steam. In my opinion they are definitely worth it but if you don't want to pay that much for old games they are regularely on sale for 2-3€ or so.

There is no guarantee that the remake will be good. At least you'll be able to compare the remake to the original when the remake comes out. Unless you really can't stand playing old games there isn't really a reason to wait for the remake in my opinion.

I bought it awhile ago but I could never get it to work. I gave it a serious shot but all the solutions didn’t pan out. I’m not a PC gamer generally and not a patient person with broken shit. That’s a reason for waiting for the remakes, you don’t have any to accept it but it is what it is.

@Smokehouse: I understand getting old games to run on new PCs can be a hassle. If you got the Enhanced Edition from steam you shoudln't have any problems though. It's patched to run on modern systems out of the gate without any tweaking necessary.

Its a shame infinite killed bioshock. I actually liked the game

BlackShark0012248d ago

It looks like it is actually rendered real-time in-engine using actual game assets, OH NO!

The System Shock games are among my favorite games of all time. To be honest I'm really nervous about System Shock 3. Underworld Ascendant, a spiritual successor to Ultima Underworld developed by Otherside Entertainment (same studio, different team), was disaster. To be fair it had a very limited budget and only had a dev team of 6 people or so. But now that the publishing deal with Starbreeze has been canceled who knows how that will impact the production of System Shock 3. If they won't get a deal with another publisher in the next couple of months I'd take it as a sign that they don't really have a promising project at this point.

It's great that they have Warren Spector on board but as much of a legend as he is, I'm not sure that he still got it as a game director. If Ken Levine was directing this, I'd be much more confident in the outcome.

Hopefully Warren and his team at Otherside can prove me wrong.

Hugely lame. This would be like finally announcing the development of Half Life 3, then scrapping it. But worse, because people have been waiting for this way longer.

aryan9411920d ago

Crap! So sad to hear the news. Was super psyched for another game. Hope the workers will be ok

Nightdive Studios is making good progress with the System Shock Remastered.

beanplant1920d ago

And it looks pretty good so far

m2stech1920d ago (Edited 1920d ago )

so confusing too many projects was that sequel or the remaster or the reboot ?

Shane Kim1920d ago (Edited 1920d ago )

There is a "remaster" (from the looks of it, it looks more like a remake) wich are doing the first game. Then we have these guys, who at least some of them, are former members of Looking Glass Studios.
