Nintendo Switch Will Have A Longer Than Expected Lifespan

A Console analyst believes that the lifespan of the Nintendo Switch isn't even close to coming to an end.

Cobra9512292d ago (Edited 2292d ago )

Why would it be close to its end? It hasn't been out that long, and cutting-edge tech was never its focus to begin with.

RosweeSon2291d ago

Same as long console cycles has never been Nintendo’s thing no home console of theirs has gone past 4-6 years a new switch by 2021/22 latest ;)

Neonridr2290d ago

we just finished year 2 though.. still a ways away.

AnthonyDavis2290d ago

Long live spans are bad. The console gets too weak like the 3DS, PS3, and PS2.

remixx1162290d ago

@davis

And funny enough all those consoles gave of extremely great games, honestly the best of their respective gen

It's more about what you do with the power than not

RosweeSon2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

@remix agreed 3ds is still full of classics PS3 had some of its best games in its twilight years as well as ps2 getting god of war 1/2 at the end of the Gen amongst others.
To neonridr I get what your saying but Nintendo have smashed it I’m not saying they going next Gen now but I’d say we’re not far off the middle of the Gen for them.
You’ll likely see a better switch sometime towards the end of the year slim XL/slim whatever the call it and PS4 by 2020 very end of poss even early March 2021
Nintendo have a clear pattern (check my profile pic) 6,5,4,5,6,5 years between console launches were on a 4 ie 2021 they may break the mould they normally do and it’s just a coincidence? Or is it haha Nintendo always do what they want tho however I genuinely reckon switch 2.0 a proper next Gen version won’t be far behind a ps5... switch 2.0 by 2021 end of sometime 2022 max that would be 5 years after switch launching and for Nintendo that’s enough let’s face it this Gen had Zelda Mario and Mario part smash Pokemon with Gen 8 later this year Yoshi Kirby links awakening luigis mansion3 they smashing out their big games their aren’t an awful lot left they could do another Mario2d or galaxy3
Wave race pilotwings f-zero metroid4 Mia but they’ve done there major big hitters their next Gen won’t be too long so don’t sleep on switch ;) even Wii U survived 5 years however I think they’ll wanna keep up their momentum switch is smashing it and a bigger better next Gen version now people know how good it is count me in. I was in day1 for switch and I’m well up for whatever Nintendo and Sony are cooking up

Well....consoles are still dying to some people, so analysts need to have a reason to vindicate their existence. But yeah, a less than 2 year old console likely isn't anywhere close to being at an end. 5-6 years is typical for a Nintendo console. They tend to upgrade their portable generations faster, but I see a mid-gen style upgrade more than a new system if they continue to sell well.

Sono4212290d ago

I think it will have a long lifespan because Nintendo will treat it like their handhelds and release countless revisions of it.

shinoff21832292d ago

Its the least they could do considering the way the wii u went out.

TheEnigma3132291d ago

Nintendo went out like straight busters with the wii u.

thesoftware7302291d ago

Nah, thy kept it real with the Wii U, People just misunderstood and off it!

pietro12122290d ago

It made sense to drop support on it. Four years and only 11 millions consoles sold. It was a good system, bit Nintendo dropped the ball on the Wii U

Amplitude2291d ago

I still really hope we get hardware upgrades over time. I'm sure we will, but you never really know with Nintendo lol

I just want slightly better and more stable framerates tbh. Only complaint about the Switch :(

rainslacker2290d ago

I'd like Nintendo to adopt materials that make it feel less like a toy. The Switch is pretty sturdy, and almost all Nintendo consoles are well built, but the actual hardware designs and materials Nintendo employs for all their consoles always make them look dated.

mkis0072290d ago

Since when has Nintendo not released an upgraded handheld for any portable they have made? You have to go back to gameboy color...and even then advanced was basically an upgraded color.

More recently the 3DS line got the xl, the 2ds, the new 3ds, the new 3ds xl, the new 2ds xl...and yes the "new" ones had upgraded speeds/resolutions. There is no "if" in the case of upgraded Switch models, just "when".

SegaSaturn6692291d ago

Based on how far piracy has advanaced on the switch, i wouldnt be surprised if they called it quits.

Doomster19712291d ago (Edited 2291d ago )

As much as I believe in Video Game preservation, I really hate it when piracy is a problem with a current system. I can understand piracy for preservation reasons though (unless companies provide us with better options). I do it myself for use on Emulators of past Console's (I have done so since the late 90's). We want developers to continue making games and piracy of current systems is a threat to that. I don't think they will call it quits (they never have done before), but you never know.

Bleucrunch2291d ago

Not this current sku, they need a newer sku, bluetooth device connectivity,a newer screen that takes up more space since there is more that the current switch screen is NOT utilizing.

Square makes some very weird decisions.

CrashMania1d 6h ago

This is really stupid and just baffling, the explanation for it is also a big non answer, very disappointing.

jeromeface16h ago

its pretty obvious they lost the source code

Scissorman1d 4h ago

they are so going to try to sell the extra content later down the line.

Eonjay1d 2h ago

Square Enix has really gone down the drain. Even FF7: Rebirth, while being an incredible acheivment seemed very sloppy in some areas... namely performance. These folks wonder why their games don't sell but aren't putting in a decent effort.

FinalFantasyFanatic1d 2h ago

It's been like that for a while, they've just gotten progressively worse over time, this game is a bit of a monkey's paw situation. You get the remaster, but you don't get the War Of The Lions content in exchange.

-Gespenst-1d 1h ago

They seem to be suggesting that people didn't like the new stuff in WotL, hence it's non-inclusion, but they're probably secretly planning to add it as DLC down the line, they just don't want to tell people that because they think it'll get an even worse reaction. When they do eventually add it, they'll be like, "We listened". Of course, it won't be free though, so they'll still get flak for it. On the other hand, maybe I'm too cynical.

ZeekQuattro1d ago

I could see that happening actually.
