Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – The Most In-Depth Review Ever (ThisGenGaming)

TGG says: "When Odyssey was first announced, I had my doubts. Assassin’s Creed Origins hadn’t even been out for an entire year yet (though it was close) and we were already getting another sequel. This came after the positive feedback Origins had received and many believed this was due to the extra year of development time. When I first got my hands on the Odyssey demo at Gamescom however, my faith had already been restored thanks to the introduction of elements like dialog options and a returning focus on naval combat.

In this review, a few months after release (because this game is HUGE y’all!) I aim to delve into every little detail, so strap in because this will be quite the ride."

Should be, as the game came out 5 months ago and we all know ThisGenGaming didn't get a review code from Ubisoft.

TGGJustin2268d ago

Actually the writer of the review did get a review key from Ubisoft =)

I got a physical copy from Ubisoft Belgium. I have an understanding with them that I finish their games 100% and then do an in-depth review. I did the same for Assassin's Creed Origins & Far Cry 5. I really appreciate that they give me the chance to do something else, instead of having a review out on release day after having played the game for only 5-10 hours...

One of the best games I've played this entire Gen and certainly the best game I played in 2018.

Yes I think it's better than God of War and Spider-man Both were great games, especially God of War, but this is better in my opinion

bloodyspasm2267d ago

Can't say if it's better than those or not as I havent had the time to play them yet. Going for GOW after I beat KH3

TGGJustin2266d ago

Having played all three of these I don't think Odyssey touches God of War at all. The story, characters, and graphics don't even come close. I'd say the combat is more satisfying in God of War as well.

Hey man, that's your opinion.

This is mine.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm not going to try and convince you otherwise.

It's an MT filled, live service, single player game. This is the issue. Fixing the combat will not make their games worth full price at launch.

qalpha1480d ago

It's not a live service. I bought Valhalla on sale one month after launch for $40 and haven't spent a dime more on it since. MTXs are only if you go to the store and are only cosmetic (as far as I can tell, I really don't shop there). AC has some issues but you don't know what you're talking about.

anast1480d ago

The grind is real and manufactured. Otherwise they wouldn't need XP boosters. You don't "have to" buy MTs with live service games but they design them to make you want to. Any game that has a consistent MT shop is a live service. UBI just dresses their games as single player experiences chopped in a million pieces. AC Origins to Valhalla are live service games.

@anast
You clearly haven't played the game. It's not 'chopped in a million pieces'. If you don't want to wander around the map clearing out side quests and finding the secrets, you don't have to. The main storyline progresses at a fairly quick pace and the game never gets hard (not like Souls hard, anyway). I never once thought about buying a boost and I had plenty of money and XP to finish the game without grinding. And the MTX are completely hidden unless you click on the STORE button in the menu. The game never pestered me to buy the MTX. I didn't even know there were any until I had about 20 hours in and started to click around to see what else they offered.
