Horny Melon: Fallout 3 Review

After a ten year absence (we are ignoring the travesties BOF and Tactics) a new Fallout game has dropped. Brought back to life by Bethesda as a FPS first person perspective roleplaying game. For those that have been living out in the woods, the fallout series takes place 200 years after a nuclear war.

"The issue we have is the lack of 1080p support for the PS3. All the cool developers are now able to produce games in 1080p. There is no excuse, other than they didn’t want to take the time."
That made me laugh. Durgh, they must think it's just about taking the time to produce something as complicated as Fallout 3 with a good frame rate in 1080p..

Also shame about:
Online: 0/10
This generation of consoles there is no excuse for a lack of online component. Throughout the game you can have a companion and with the limited amount of ammo co-op seems a no brainer

Horny Melon6037d ago (Edited 6037d ago )

1080p. 2k games with bioshock, EA with dead space, Kojima with MGS, Insomniac games resistance 2, ubisoft with farcry 2. Fallout uses a newer version of a two year old engine. 2k games managed it with one that is one year old.

As for the second part. Games cost more, the consoles cost more. The gamer was sold these costs on the ability to play online with friends and to build communities. So far only about a third of games live up to this. What we have gotten though is buggy software (e.g. Fallout 3 and Fable, LBP) "because it can be patched later" and parts of the game shaved off and sold as DLC. Why should they get a pass?

socomnick6037d ago

none of those games you mentioned are 1080p native. Maybe upscaled but definitely not native. Also some games such as this need to stay as single player experiences adding a lazi multiplayer section might hurt and take away resources best utilized on the single player.

Horny Melon6037d ago (Edited 6037d ago )

states they are 1080p native on the back of the box or on the website.

you are right a lazy online component isn't acceptable either. A good and proper co-op, multiplayer is required.

Feel free to slap me but what happens on a PS3 if you try to run Fallout 3 in 1080p? Nothing? Or will the TV attempt to upscale it? (I own a 32" 720p plasma)

From what I have read, if a game can be upscaled from the native resolution to say 1080p on a TV, then they can put 1080p on the back of the box, but in reality there are few console games that are truly 1080p. I know I found a website somewhere that rated all games on consoles with their real resolution, MGS4 was not 1080, and I remember one of the only 360 games to be native 1080 was Top Spin 3.

Sorry if I go find the site I will link it.

Horny Melon6037d ago

of games that is current. None even go to this year. I have my PS3 set to upscale and it plays Fallout 3 fine. I don't think they are allowed to put that on the back of the box if it would upscale as the references to 1080p on the back of the box specificly states the need for HDMI cable for native 1080p displaying.

Take the time? Obviously, you don't know Fallout 3 was in development for 3 years.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro18d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.

New Vegas and Morrowind should have been first!

Christopher26d ago

Fairly certain we all know that New Vegas isn't getting anything because it's not a Bethesda developed game.

OMGitzThatGuy26d ago

MS owns both devs, if they want it, a 3rd party will make it.

***MS owns both devs, if they want it, a 3rd party will make it. ***

I think the issue is that it's not a Bethesda developed game, not that MS owns both. This is more about Todd.

RaidenBlack25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Yep ... Todd doesn't like getting bettered within his own IP scope.
I still think of the Elder Scrolls spin-off Obsidian pitched similar to New Vegas, but Todd rejected.

RaidenBlack25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Replayed NV more than FO3 ... so I appreciate the FO3 remaster more.
For NV, I'd much prefer a sequel or a spinoff from Obsidian.

FTLmaster26d ago

Got a soft spot for Fallout 3, so I'd be down to play this.

-Foxtrot26d ago

It's crazy New Vegas wasn't worked on first to launch alongside Fallout Season 2.

They could have added all the cut content they had planned but didn't have enough development time to add, possibly even expand on it a little more. For example, have the Vegas strip as one big hub over being chopped into smaller sections we have to keep loading into.

neutralgamer199226d ago

Would love a complete remake or sequel with enough resources

Abnor_Mal26d ago

The only Fallout game I’ve played, PS3 had to keep stopping every few minutes to save. Next thing I knew the credits were rolling and I never did any side quest. I never replayed the game because of all the bugs the game had.

Yui_Suzumiya25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

I've played Fallout 3 more than any game. I lost count many years ago of how many times I finished it. It was my first Platinum trophy. But yeah, it was buggy on PS3 at launch before it got properly patched.

anast26d ago

They are only remaking their games that have been streamlined.
