Great deal indeed. And things will only get better as the hype will increase after E3 2019!

Marioraider181902d ago

I mean.. they can't get any worse..

Edito1901d ago

I don't understand how you xbox gamers can get this hyped by a console thst sells services and games... You are worried about the hype getting bigger and games being released... I don't get it...

NarutoFox1901d ago (Edited 1901d ago )

I hope your right about E3 2019. Overhype most of the time.

ProjectVulcan1901d ago

I would sell my Xbox if I wasn't so lazy and needed money. Nothing good to play on it that I can't play much better on my PC.

Obscure_Observer1901d ago (Edited 1901d ago )

@NarutoFox

"I hope your right about E3 2019. Overhype most of the time."

Ninja Theory´s new IP
Playground´s new IP
RARE´s new IP
The Coalition´s Gears 5 and... new IP?
Halo Infinite reveal Gameplay
Forza 7 back to its SIM roots thanks a major overhaul by Turn 10 and hopefully day one on Game Pass.
More Cuphead and maybe the announcement/reveal of Studio MDHR´s new project/IP
Ori 2
Probably more studio acquisitions.
All that without mention a few surprises hiden under Spencer´s sleeve.

Plenty of reasons to be excited/hyped if you ask me. ;)

starchild1901d ago

@Edito

You don't understand why people look forward to E3 to learn more about what's coming for a platform they own in terms of features, services and games?

I mean, yes, most everybody knows that Microsoft haven't done well with their exclusives. Especially the past few years. But they've done a number of other pro-gamer things that shouldn't be discounted. And they have had some exclusives, but not enough. Now they have a lot more studios and it's not surprising that people would be looking forward to see what they are working on.

I know that I, even as a PC gamer, am looking forward to what Microsoft's studios are working on. Those Microsoft exclusives are games I can enjoy on my preferred platform, unlike Sony exclusives. It's also interesting because more intense competition between the platforms tends to only bring good things for gamers overall.

Microsoft should take some notes and maintain Game Pass as an exclusive Xbox One service. Come next generation and the new first party games, Game Pass will become an essential service for Xbox One owners. That said, i think they should continue to allow PC gamers to have access to first party/play anywhere games.

2pacalypsenow1902d ago

MS knows they Xbox is struggling, so they're going to move 'Xbox" across all the platforms they can.

Zeref1901d ago (Edited 1901d ago )

It's a smart move that is beneficial to both their Business and us Consumers. I look forward to playing all my Xbox games on my Switch or my Phone.

2pacalypsenow1900d ago

@shaggy2303

It bastardizes the xbox brand.

Just like Sony putting PS Now on PC.

Razzer1902d ago

Nope. Gaming for Microsoft is bigger than just Xbox the console. Spencer has already said it will expand on PC and "every device". As it should. Why MS just limit this service so fanboys can brag about it? That's just silly.

"So we built Xbox Game Pass--it started on console, it will come to PC, and eventually it will come to every device--we use the flywheel that we have with customers on an Xbox to start the growth in Xbox Game Pass. But as somebody sitting back and taking a longer-term view of where our business is going, you should look at that as a business model that we think scales to billions of people not hundreds of millions of people like retail does."

mcstorm1901d ago

This is all text book the new Microsoft. When balmer stepped down there was a big change within the company to become a service rather than to try and own the world so to speak. Microsoft have one big advantage over both Google & apple on the markets the complete with and that is they have there services on there platforms so even if people pick there devices they can still use Microsoft software and services.

Now switch that over to Sony and Nintendo and they already have mindcraft on there consoles (I know they bought it but still offer it) and by pushing cloud gaming (which microsoft should have the upper hand over eveyone else) they can offer there services on other platforms Sony, Nintendo consoles but also Windows, mac, android and more. Also with them saying x cloud will let you play your digital games you own on it adds more than others at this moment in time and adding game pass to this service to makes it even more reason to look at getting it.

I still see microsoft selling consoles and branding it as the ultimate way to play xbox games but that said offering x cloud games on other platforms opens it up to more people an consoles alone do.

I also think this will be the way casual gamers will go to. I still see the core buying consoles.

Intresting times in the games industry though and I still think all 3 have a few tricks and shocks to show us.

letsa_go1901d ago

Your comment makes no sense at all. You say it should be exclusive to xbox one, but should continue to allow pc gamers. That is what it already is! And how can it be exclusive if it is somewhere else too? And you say next generation it will be essential to xbox one owners. Isn't it already essential to xbox owners? Why would it apply only to xbox one owners next gen when there will be a new xbox out? Shouldn't it also apply to xbox two owners, or whatever they end up calling it??

Obscure_Observer1901d ago

@letsa_go

"Your comment makes no sense at all. You say it should be exclusive to xbox one, but should continue to allow pc gamers. That is what it already is!"

For first party only games yes. Even those Xbox first party games needs to be Play Anywhere titles to run on PC via Game Pass. Which makes less than 10% of all Game Pass library avaliable on PC via Game Pass. PC gamers aren´t not allowed to play Hitman, Shadow of Tomb Raider or Fallout 4 for example.

"And how can it be exclusive if it is somewhere else too?"

If you call Windows 10 PCs (a Microsoft platform) "somewhere else", so be it.

"Why would it apply only to xbox one owners next gen when there will be a new xbox out? Shouldn't it also apply to xbox two owners, or whatever they end up calling it??"

It will apply to every Xbox owner, current and future. Xbox will foward, current and backwards compatible. I said next gen because Microsoft will inject more must to have AAA games day one on Game Pass thanks the recent acquisitons and creation of new first party studios, games and IPs.

MS is using the Xbox brand to grow it's Windows and services, not Windows or PC to grow it's gaming business. Xbox is becoming a service, rather quickly, and right before our eyes. The hardware is a neccesary evil for MS right now, but the writing is on the wall, and they've pretty much said their whole purpose for Windows, Xbox, and other commercial or enterprise software they make, is to become a service oriented company.

Gaming may benefit because they recognize they need the compelling software to reach their end goal, but gaming itself isn't bigger for MS than just the Xbox console. The console is just part of a bigger plan they have.

Is always funny to see how you people come to a conclusion that Microsoft is becoming a service for doing the exact same thing that Sony tried to pull out just a few years back.

I doubt that Microsoft will leave hardware before Sony or Nintendo. And since Microsoft will probably going to invest big money on expensive hardware by releasing more than just one next gen Xbox console, i dare to say that they´re more into console gaming than competiton.

"The console is just part of a bigger plan they"

Well, Sony already warned their investors about the "Cloud gaming menace". And yet, they´re expanding their own "cloud gaming service" right before our eyes.

https://n4g.com/news/223513...

rainslacker1901d ago (Edited 1901d ago )

Sony didn't put all its focus into restructuring it's entire business paradigm from consumer products, to service based products. They have service based products, and obviously recognize the importance of them going forward, but they doubled down more on traditional methods of game delivery.

So, no, I didn't come to the conclusion I did despite doing the same thing, because Sony didn't, and hasn't done the same thing. Plus, while Sony has talked about the services on ocassion, it's not anywhere near the extent to which MS, not just in gaming, but as a company as a whole have laid out very publicly how they want the future to progress for their products. Go look up any number of interviews or keynote speaches of Nadella, and you will see he flat out says how MS is moving towards services.

It's plainly obvious. Every technological journalistic entity reports on it, except in gaming, where apparently, it's going to be either the most successful thing ever, or on rare occassions, mean nothing. Just because the gaming press and you are oblivious to MS outside of Xbox, doesn't mean they aren't talking about it, and people aren't seeing it. Just look at the release of Win10. They outright said they don't want to sell the OS anymore. They will always make it free going forward. You will always require the Live service to use it in some way. It's not secret, you just choose to remain ignorant, and not put two and two together.

What MS is doing right now, is what they're doing as a company as a whole.

And I doubt MS will leave hardware anytime soon either. The hardware is part of their plan. Just like Alexa is part of Amazon's plan, or google smart home is part of theirs. The nature of that hardware may not be what you are saying for the long term though. They'll have a console next gen, but I suspect they'll push the nature of the services to the front.

You should really read the whole quote about what Sony said about cloud gaming. They said it would be a very long while before it happens, and it probably won't make hardware obsolete.

Obscure_Observer1901d ago (Edited 1901d ago )

@rainslacker

YOU said:

"Xbox is becoming a service, rather quickly, and right before our eyes. No offence, but i would call your statement hyperbole and FUD BS! Forgive me if i rather trust Phil Spencer´s words rather than your vague conjectures. Here:

In an interview with Mexican gaming website LevelUp, Phil was asked to comment on the future of streaming video games and the cloud technology. He was asked if the time has come where CONSOLES will simply disappear at one point, and players would prefer using screens to run through remote servers. Phil answered:

“No. There are certain scenarios where a stream game is the best answer. On a CONSOLE the, best scenario for you is to DOWNLOAD that game and play. If you are on a PC that`s capable of download and play that game, download and play that game. NOT ALL DEVICES are CAPABLE of playing the MOST DEMANDING games that we see here on the show, so streaming is an option in those scenario, and there are some scenarios of like instant start and trials where maybe streaming on a device might be interesting, but I think for years and years the best way to play a game will be to download that game and play it. The same thing on PC. I think streaming is something that is further out in terms of it becoming a really mass marked where everybody`s doing it, and even way further out before it`s the best way to play that game if it ever is.”

There you have it! Console gaming IS and will CONTINUE to be Microsoft´s primary focus for the forseeable future! You heard it from the man himself! Phil belives that execute a downloadable game is the best way to play! He doens´t even belive that Streaming will be the best way to play over downloadable games EVER! Now, you can continue to spell your nonsentical predictions based on nothing but your vain hope that Microsoft will leave the console market before Sony and Nintendo. Just make sure and grab yourself a confortable chair while you wait. ;)

gangsta_red1901d ago

It's funny to read how MS is the only one "quickly" becoming a service and this is only based on the perception of so called many articles you have read. Funny enough most of those articles report on the same information, the same rumors and mostly just opinion pieces on old information we already know of reported over and over again.

Of course for some reason this means that MS is "quickly" becoming a service because of it. Interesting enough the same perception could be said about the many articles we get on different developers wanting crossplay but for some reason that gets dismissed as clickbait or some other downplay of excusing journalists of those gaming integrity. Of course now it's convenient to bring up the many articles you supposedly see on this website as some means of MS being the only ones vocal about it.

But with your obvious bias aside it's easy to see that both Sony and MS are moving towards the same goal. Both MS and Sony have followed the same trends in console gaming, from features to services, both are investing in streaming with Sony actually being ahead of MS with PSnow and offering it to PC. They also already had this service on more of their other devices but cancelled that because of their other businesses failing outside of their successful consoles.

But rumors (with a lot of articles failing here on N4G) suggests they will once again roll out a service on multiple devices.

https://ticgamesnetwork.com...

What's ignorant is you thinking that Sony won't push services to the front when in fact they have been doing just about everything MS has in regards to features and services.

They'll quietly do the same thing MS has like implement paid online, push their TV service, streaming on PC, rent and download games and eventually play from anywhere on any device.

rainslacker1900d ago (Edited 1900d ago )

What more evidence do you need that MS is going to services than MS saying it themselves?

That is MS future. The console itself is necessary for that for the foreseeable future, but MS isn't in gaming to just be in gaming, they're in it to sell their services. They always were. They partnered with Sega because they didn't want Sony to take away the market in the living room when it was obviously going towards an OS being in the living room on the TV. They created Xbox when Sega dropped out, because it's all they had left to do when Sony said no to their Windows platform.

That was always MS intention. The people who first designed Xbox to meet that end for MS, had gaming in mind, and kudos to them, but the two of you are so hell bent on thinking that MS achieving that goal is somehow such a terrible thing that it would completely eradicate their place in the game industry. It doesn't, so stop acting like it's an attack on them just because they have a different vision for the future than Sony or Nintendo.

You two spend countless hours talking about how great all of MS services are, and why it's worth buying an Xbox for. How if you play on PC, you're still on a MS platform. You're own words show that that is what you want, so why are you so hell bent on saying that MS isn't? If what I'm saying is mere hyperbole, then how come your own words back up that hyperbole?

Face it, MS is moving to more a service based approach. It is what it is, but it doesn't mean the end of Xbox gaming. Just that it's changing from what we know.

Doesn't surprise me that you're trying to spin this so hard.

Zeref1901d ago (Edited 1901d ago )

Why would they keep it exclusive to Xbox when they can potentially make even more money(more money= more games) if they put it on iOS , Android and potentially the Switch?

badz1491901d ago

more money = more games? LOL with MS? yeah, sure, bud. /s

MS has more money than Sony and Nintendo, but where are the games??

gamepass is not the platform so they can produce more games, it's a platform they want to use to host games from others. like how Valve use Steam to own the PC market but they themselves pretty much not making a game anymore. that's what MS is trying to be in the future

And $10 is not so bad.

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff21834h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga3h ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty.
