Xbox Live Coming to Switch Could Signal a New Era of Competitor Collaboration

It could mean as little as cross-platform achievements, or it could plant the seeds for the future of video games.

Has Nintendo agreed to this or what? Either way Nintendo is awful at online so they need all the help they can get. You can’t even message your friends for crying out loud.

S2Killinit1917d ago

Yeah i wonder if Nintendo is ok with this. Cant Nintendo make their own service? Seems like MS wants Nintendo’s share of the pie.

Eonjay1917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

Microsoft is trying to turn social gaming into a service and they are trying to appeal to developers by providing said services that span multiple platform infrastructures. It doesn't make sense to Sony because they are already providing that service on their platform and PSN is wildly lucrative. It may make sense to Nintendo because Microsoft would be able to add social gaming features that Nintendo doesn't currently support.

Microsoft can benefit by licensing out Xbox Live to developers.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see other entities offer similar service. I also can't predict their long term success either.

It isn't transforming gaming. The services already exist.

crazyCoconuts1917d ago

I don't see any evidence of Nintendo agreeing to integrating their platform with XBL. Looks like this journalist is being sloppy.

rainslacker1917d ago

Not to my knowledge. MS is releasing some API integration for enabling XBL functionality within games, but that's not integrating XBL on the console level. This would be game specific implementation, which is already allowed on other consoles through 3rd party log in stuff within games. On PS, it still has to work through Sony's own PSN protocols, and I'm not sure what's required on Nintendo, but I imagine they also require you not to circumvent their own network protocols.

The things in question here would be more practical for those who develop on PC, but enable XBL integration for various features.

“Is it possible that Microsoft brings Game Pass to Switch?“

Now you’re getting way too ahead of yourself.

“Would it be too outlandish to think we’d see Nintendo games added to Game Pass?”

If you even have to ask a question like that you should already know the answer.

Gemmol1917d ago

If it came I would sign up.....probably switch to Xbox next generation to keep both switch and Microsoft connected

Gemmol1917d ago

All it means the people who complain of no trophies can finally stop, if the games use Xbox live then just like Minecraft you will get Xbox trophies.

If every developer use it people can collect as much trophies as they want

I’m more curious on which one will developers use.......Xbox live for cross play or will they use Epic tools for cross play only difference Xbox live have trophies

rdgneoz31917d ago

Playstation has trophies, xbox has achievements.

Gemmol1917d ago

Thanks for the fix I will know that better in the future when I switch from switch and ps4 to switch and Xbox next gen system

Ninte1917d ago

Stuff Nintendo online, anything got to be good for the switch.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

darthv72167d ago

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ167d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil167d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Orchard538d ago

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90538d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos537d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90537d ago (Edited 537d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Profchaos537d ago (Edited 537d ago )

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
