ION Fury Review - CG

CG writes: The creators of the infamous and classic first person shooter of yore Duke Nukem, 3D Realms team-up with Voidpoint. The Build Engine makes a return in the form of Ion Fury (previously known as Ion Maiden). Law suits from aged rockers aside, Ion Fury steps back in time to offer a heady mix of fast-paced visceral visuals amongst a first person shooter back-drop. The bottom line is, if you liked Duke Nukem 3D then you’ll love this.

@CaitSith If you're gonna cry, just move along.

TheRacingX2217d ago

@napalmsanctuary....seems know one knows the words to that one....

crazyCoconuts2218d ago

I had to read it twice myself when it came out, but to sue over it? Jeez

TheRacingX2218d ago

As a Maiden fan, I watched the trailer and there are alot of blatant nods to the band and the themes of their music, the game logo is almost identical, if it were outlined in red it would look misspelled as the bands name....the main character is Shelly Harrison, the bass player in the band is Steve Harris....I mean cmon, dont be so blatant....

DethWish2218d ago

Maiden fan here as well, but dont they have enough money already? I mean, they're part of pop culture now, they have to accept that people will pay homage to them in different ways. Ion Maiden is a joke, a humoristic game, nothing more.

kneon2218d ago

It's probably not about the money, but if you don't defend your trademarks you increase the risk losing them.

meep3162218d ago

There’s more to iron maiden than just the band itself, it’s a business on its own. So yes, it should be protected.

jeki2218d ago

I don't think it's about the money.

SegaGamer2218d ago

@jeki

You don't think it's about the money? Come on, don't be so naive, it's always about the money.

Realms2217d ago

That's the point of a trade mark so that these kinds of oh but we didn't know situations don't happen. They could have reached out to the band and asked permission or made a deal but they tried to be slick and now their studio is a world of shite. It's always about money but more than that it's about protecting their interest, you can't go around infringing on others peoples work change a few a things and call it original.

drunkenspy0072218d ago

Doesn't seem that blatant to me, it's not the same font nor is it red like the band uses. This just reminds me of Metallica suing napster... yeah, they're supposed to be a hardcore metal band but beneath it all they're just money grubs.

steven83r2217d ago

Funny how so many were against Metallica for suing Napster. And yet none of those people were musicians and know what it's like to have your stuff stolen. If it's ok to steal music that someone paid lots of money to create, why not just walk into Best Buy and walk out with a TV citing that Best Buy are billionaires and have enough money?

Wolffenblitz2218d ago

UP THE IRONS!

Protect yerself lads. But it's probably their lawyers tbh.

Elwenil2218d ago

It's Steve's band by the way. He also writes the majority of the songs.

Up the Irons!

Pickledpepper2217d ago

And now look what they have achieved, major publicity.
3D realms has put them in the spot light, I'm sure iron maiden are going to benefit out of this without the need for a lawsuit.
Not that they need it.

NiteX2218d ago

This just seems greedy and pathetic. NO customer is going to buy the game Ion Maiden thinking it's one of the Iron Maiden albums...

jeki2218d ago (Edited 2218d ago )

The lawsuit isn't about people being fooled into thinking it's one of their albums.

meep3162218d ago

they do have their own game genius.

Soy2217d ago

It's not about that, it's people thinking it's related to the band or related to them in any way. They probably could've gotten away with using the font, or the name "Ion Maiden," but not both.
