I predict an 88 metacritic.

Eonjay1919d ago

Seems about right. Also, game releases tomorrow in Japan so it is time to go under ground folks. The spoilers are coming in full force.

nommers1919d ago

I wish that were true but reviewers have it out for SE and have had for years. It’s like you need to add 5-7 points in some cases. Some of their low 80 games feel like 90s.

Delicious1919d ago

As a SE fan I feel like the exact opposite. FF15 got solid reviews despite being below average in almost every way. This game does look great though. Truly hoping it's a fun sequel to KH1+2

@Delicious
As a fan of gaming I felt FFXV was great in almost every way and got duped for a lot of smaller more trivial aspects. But of course that’s the only game the “collective SE fan base” thinks I might be talking about and it would be a crime to not go after it and take pot shots every chance for..reasons of some kind. Forget about Type 0 (70s but still we’re talking underrated games) or KH 1+2.5. To some degree even their higher reviewed games like Nier Automata. 88 is very great, but some reviewers write this game like a ten but only give it a 9 to be “safe”. Jim Sterling is a prime example.

@nommers as a fan of gaming, delicious is absolutely right. FFXV got a bit of a pass, while lacking polish and a great deal of content on release. It still lacks much of that, and SE have decided (rightly) to pull the plug. It's a 6/10, a 7/10 at best, especially when you consider its pedigree. The director resigned (most likely) because of the mess. Type 0 is a better game but a technical mess on HD consoles, it needed more work too. I do not have high hopes for the FFVII remake at this point. The talent that made SE the powerhouse it was have largely departed at this point.

Reviewers by and large haven't been harsh enough on SE. The fans have (some are a little over-zealous), but critical response has been slow to reflect the minds of the many older SE fans who have watched them fall from grace.

nommers1917d ago

@LightofDarkness

Nope. The SE fan base has gotten worse over time.

nommers1917d ago

@LightofDarkness

Nope. It had plenty of content then too and a plethora of places to explore/things to do. One of the best fishing mini games ever made and riding on a chocobo feels about as good as driving in GTA. The basics are more than enough to enjoy as well just getting into fights with monsters.

The FF fan base has gotten worse over time. Or rather the old school fans keep hanging around pitching tents. Driving the home value down.

Somehow they’re still around barking about the old days and pretending they have standards despite sweeping under the rug a game design implementation equivalent to staring down a miles worth of red lights, separated by about 50-100 feet each and you’re required to stop at each light for 15-30 seconds with no way around it. FF1-6 are absolutely god awful with flow.

The sum of xv’s flaws do not equal that big of a design weakness.

At least many of FFXV’s flaws have either workarounds or silver linings. One example being the camera in some places. The game being pretty easy is a blessing here. Same with enemy zoning issues. Then again I don’t see why any long time FF fans would complain too much about the difficulty any ways considering how easy the games are in the main story. Annoying repitition with drop zone soldiers in some areas? You can get away easily.

Hopefully it stays that high, but let’s see after 60 or so reviews.

It releases on the 29th, assuming you don’t live in Japan.

Final Fantasy XVI Has Finally Given Donald Duck A Worthy Opponent

For a long time, it's been widely accepted amongst Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts fans that Donald Duck is the most powerful mage ever to exist, mainly due to his use of the stupidly powerful Zettaflare spell towards the end of Kingdom Hearts 3. This spell is one step up from Teraflare, a spell which was used in Final Fantasy XIV that was so powerful that it completely wiped out the base game, giving the developers a canonical reason to let them bin everything and start again from scratch.

Now you're armed with this information, you can see how it was pretty surprising for Donald Duck of all characters to bust out Zettaflare and establish himself as the most powerful character in Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts lore. However, now that Final Fantasy XVI has arrived and delivered a whole new cast of characters, a new challenger has arrived to provide Donald with some much needed competition.

Final Fantasy's Strongest Canonical Magic User Is... Donald Duck?

Final Fantasy features many strong characters, but an unlikely character from Kingdom Hearts is able to cast the most powerful spell ever seen

Final Fantasy's strongest magic user is Donald Duck, who never appears in a final fantasy game.

This Kingdom Hearts Boss' Unpredictability Gave Me Sekiro Vibes

Kingdom Hearts is filled with otherworldly boss battles, but only one stands out like a phoenix dancing with ethereal grace across the night sky. Before we embark upon a discussion concerning Kingdom Hearts' exceptional boss battles, it may be prudent to first reflect on the evolution of the criteria for appraising video game bosses. This criterion has undergone a major metamorphosis over the past decade; one that owes much to the profound influence of From Software and its iconic Souls series.

"Yozora is much more than a grueling secret encounter; he is a reflection of what Kingdom Hearts' bosses should be"

No thank you. If every boss in Kingdom Hearts was like Yozora, the series would be unplayable. That's not to say that they shouldn't include such challenges, but making them fundamental to the game would be too much. And don't say that this is what the From Software games are, because Yozora is absolutely harder than most of the bosses in those games. He is waaay faster, has a ludicrous number of abilities (and does them in random order AND can chain most of them together), and punishes you severely if you make a mistake. On top of that, you have to survive this onslaught for a really long time because of how much health he has. It's borderline too much - for me at least. Still, it's a stunning battle.

OMNlPOTENT362d ago

I agree, while I do really enjoy the Yozora fight, I think it's far too difficult to be anything more than an optional boss. However, I do believe that there should be more bosses that are in the same weight and size class as Sora, as the majority of those in KH3 were the best fights. The giant heartless bosses just aren't as enjoyable.
