Skies in mmorpg
When one needs to compare MMORPGs it is usually done in terms of uniqueness of the setting which the game puts the player into, thoroughness of class and balance design, originality of game mechanics. Is the lore of the game absorbing, can the quests actually catch you off guard and be a meaningful addition to the gameplay, is there enough space for the roleplay? How extensively does one need to cooperate with the community or are there means for playing solo, is the world free to roam killing other players or is the pvp instanced? Every person that prefers massively multiplayer online games has at some point mused about these matters to answer the ever standing question: Why am I to play this game and not the other?
When the choice has been made and some hours has been put into the game one may find other, unexpected, reasons to keep playing. Putting social connections and necessary grind aside, there surely have been some moments when you were surprised by an easter egg or a joke, sweet stories and homages to pop culture in quests and other lovely imprints thoughtfully put there by some game developer. It’s sometimes the little things that make you load back online again, right? What’s always been helpful for the immersion to me is a sky that is pleasant to look at. Would I pick a game to be my second life if there were no breathtaking skies in it? Not sure. I like to think that when my character dies, the last thing to see is the sky and it better be beautiful. Hopefully, skygazers like me and Jack from Lost will find this compilation a huge inspiration.
