Surprising lack of acknowledgement of Wii U in an article article about 8th gen consoles.

tonyjames4042356d ago

The Wii U was kind of a forgotten console that was acknowledged by quite a few as a hybrid that was kind of a 7.5 gen.

2pacalypsenow2356d ago

8th gen is PS4,Xbox 1, Wii U.

9th Gen so far is Switch.

Just because no one bought the Wii U doesn't negate the fact that it was part of the 8th gen so idk why people treat the Switch as an 8th gen console.

Switch may be considered a do over for the wiiu but it does not negate that the wiiu had its obligatory 5 years on the market before it was canceled. Nintendo has a console cycle that averages 5 years. The Switch is their 7th home console and the first in what would be considered the 9th gen of systems. Call it 8.5 if you like but the wiiu has its rightful spot in the 8th gen and you can't simply ignore that.

That would be like ignoring the TG16 from the 16bit generation because it was technically an 8bit system and it did not sell very well compared to the likes of the Genesis and the SNES. It still has it's rightful place in console history.

If you think generations are only defined by specs then you are sadly mistaken.

A 7.5 gen system? Lmao does that make Wii a 6.5 gen system?

Where is Wii U, we're talking about 8th generation consoles here. Switch is 9th generation

Square makes some very weird decisions.

CrashMania17h ago

This is really stupid and just baffling, the explanation for it is also a big non answer, very disappointing.

jeromeface4h ago

its pretty obvious they lost the source code

Scissorman16h ago

they are so going to try to sell the extra content later down the line.

Square Enix has really gone down the drain. Even FF7: Rebirth, while being an incredible acheivment seemed very sloppy in some areas... namely performance. These folks wonder why their games don't sell but aren't putting in a decent effort.

FinalFantasyFanatic14h ago

It's been like that for a while, they've just gotten progressively worse over time, this game is a bit of a monkey's paw situation. You get the remaster, but you don't get the War Of The Lions content in exchange.

They seem to be suggesting that people didn't like the new stuff in WotL, hence it's non-inclusion, but they're probably secretly planning to add it as DLC down the line, they just don't want to tell people that because they think it'll get an even worse reaction. When they do eventually add it, they'll be like, "We listened". Of course, it won't be free though, so they'll still get flak for it. On the other hand, maybe I'm too cynical.

ZeekQuattro11h ago

I could see that happening actually.
