Carl Williams writes, "JoyMasher may not be a household name yet though they are definitely working their way to that. Previous titles they have successfully released include Odallus: The Dark Call and Oniken and soon, in early 2019, Blazing Chrome. It is this latest title that has me interested, partly because it obviously pulls inspiration from Contra Hard Corps, on the Sega Genesis, and Metal Slug, a Neo Geo arcade classic franchise, but also because of the style. I love run and gun games and can fare quite a bit better with them than I can scrolling shooters like Raiden or Thunder Force III. Consider my ticket punched for this ride."
MonsterVine: "Take a look at the games Sean thought were worth a damn in 2019"
Adam Vale of The Koalition writes: The Nintendo Switch surprisingly has become my go-to console for playing two of my favorite genres, arcade-style shooters and straight to the point beat’em ups. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a strong dialogue-heavy adventure/action game but more often than not, I just want to jump in a game to shoot bad guys and do some over the top fisticuffs.
Gamecrate:
We're just a day away from a whole new year — no, a whole new decade! We've discussed the best games of the year: action games, strategy games, fighting games, and indie games. We've even taken a glimpse back at the decade in gaming. There are so many great games, though, that along the way, some really good titles get overlooked and are lost in the shuffle.
How is metro exodus underrated? Highly marketed, sold well, and very well received.
My pick for underrated games are Outward, and Judgment. Friggin great games
how is the Rage underrated? this game has just combat and that it is. one of the worst AAA title this year.
underrated is Judgment, Days Gone, Outer Wilds..
It's surprising that Days Gone is not charting on any of these end of the year list for underrated, worst, and disappointing game of the year. When the game was ready to release the wolves of gaming journalism tries to rip its throat out. It was picked a part by the vultures that lurk on gaming websites across the internet.
Metro Exodus is considered underrated even though it reviewed well and was on more platforms.
"In addition, single player shooters are kind of a hard sell in 2019. Even then, the game has managed to sell and review well. That said, it almost feels like it was quickly forgotten about and tucked away. Given its attention to detail and superb gameplay, Metro Exodus should be right up there with the best of the best AAA titles of the year."
I had no hopes for Rage2, as I did not enjoy the first one, only payable because it was very early in the generation and there was not that much else that looked interesting.
I have a very big place in my heart for Contra/Hard Corps Uprising-esque games.
Color me interested.
You had my attention at Contra Hard Corps. Will keep an eye on this one.
No Bill Ryzer or Lance Bean , if this play like Contra i'm in. if this game do great hope it force Konami to develope a Real Contra game.
Yes had my eye on this one a while back but it was only PC back then. Now it says PS4 and Switch I’m definitely interested. Have all the contras from arcade, SNES, Megdrive. Contra rebirth wasn’t bad either.
