Lawn Gnomes have been around for a long time. Longer than video games.

Nitrowolf22338d ago

It’s such a generic design that’s common is a lot of things. As you said, have existed for a long time. It doesn’t take someone with brains to shop a gnome head on a base character

EpicFruityPie2338d ago

Are all Fortnite players entitled and triggered?

SegaGamer2338d ago

Games like Fortnite attract the worst type of gamers.

PhantomS422338d ago

Well, they are adolescent children who are buying into a game that is literally built on being unoriginal and ripping other things off. So yes is the answer you are looking for.

Eldyraen2338d ago

Their right concept looks like David the Gnome from the cartoon, but he gave his a shirt to the other one and apparently he had an allergic reaction too.

rainslacker2337d ago

Looking at the concept, and the actual implementation, I don't see how they're very similar, other than they're both gnome designs, and that Gnome concept has been around for hundreds of years....if not sooner in artwork.

The shirt design is different, pants are different, no lantern on the back of the Fortnite one, different hats, etc.

I think this would never get labelled as copyright infringement, because it is unique enough in it's design of something that is public domain(gnomes).

Eldyraen2337d ago

Never said anything about copyright. But that’s what it reminded me of.

rainslacker2337d ago

Even still...I don't see any resemblance between the concept, and the Fortnite implementation.

I mean they're Gnomes. Gnomes have a distinctive look, and Epic's gnome looks much more detailed than the basic Gnome made by the concept artist.

Ea should sue the gnome has red glowing eyes

It's just a complaint, not a lawsuit, and it's completely unwarranted.

Garethvk19h ago

I said filed which they did. Filed a complaint.

VersusDMC18h ago

James earl jones sold his voice for use for Darth Vader after his passing and his estate said they approved it.

So i don't know why SAG is getting involved as it makes it seem like they are going against james earl jones wishes or just wanted a cut...

Garethvk17h ago

They are concerned about A.I. replacing live talent. It's an unusual stance as you are correct; he left his voice and his family approved. The union is saying doing this versus using a live actor sets a bad precedent going forward. The use of A.I. has been a huge issue in the recent labor deals.

VersusDMC13h ago

Well this is also an interactive AI Darth Vader that would have made live talent impossible unless they think a actor being in Fortnight 24/7 is an acceptable solution.

They should concentrate on cases that are possible to be done with live talent and that haven't been given blessing or sold by the original actor(for which they should have the right to sell)

Eonjay11h ago

"James earl jones sold his voice for use for Darth Vader after his passing and his estate said they approved it."

I have to say if James approved this after his death... that would be... um...

Do you mean he approved it while he was alive for when he passed?

VersusDMC8h ago

It's reported that he gave permission before his death and his estate(which i asume is his family) says so as well.

spoonard3h ago

Because SAG-AFTRA are trade unions. They are the Hollywood mafia protecting their profits from anything they feel could undermine them. It's all about the almighty dollar, not artists.

I hope they never let it back in, don't bite the hand that feeds you bitch!

mkis0072d ago

Judge already gave them the win.

jznrpg2d ago

They did win in court, but so far the result is the same. It will be interesting to see if anything changes.

mkis0071d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

Isn't that contempt? As I type this as a potential juror

z2g2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Lmao 😂 Fortnite tried to bully apple out of its own existing policies so they themselves could make more money off apple users - then they threatened to pull Fortnite from apple. then apple said “we’re the most valuable company in the world, we’ll do it for you”.

Epic f**ked around and then found out. Lmfao.

porkChop2d ago

"so they themselves could make more money off apple users"

That's not even true. Epic was allowing in-game purchase of V-Bucks for 30% cheaper by removing the portion that would have been Apple's cut. Epic was still making the same amount of money, not more, but they were trying to let users save money.

JEECE2d ago

It's so wild that people fawn on Apple for behavior they would lambast any other company for. Just shows how good Apple's marketing is that people will change their views in any direction to support them. It wasn't so many years ago people were attacking Sony over much milder actions related to Fortnite monetization.

PapaBop2d ago

Poor little Epic playing the victim card. I mean if any small company tried to do what they did, they'd be permanently blacklisted from app stores.
