Crackdown 3: New Single-Player Gameplay Footage and Details - IGN First

Microsoft Studios Creative Director Joseph Staten walks you through a section from a new build of Crackdown 3's campaign.

darthv722366d ago

I'd say better than alright. In fact it looks pretty impressive considering we had only seen the wrecking zone stuff previously.

Sono4212365d ago

IGN's video player is so terrible. The game looks alright, not sure if i'd get it right away though.

Brave_Losers_Unite2365d ago

So basically a colorful generic shooter. Just Cause 4 looks more interesting and that game sucks

Larrysweet2365d ago

Lol it looks like 360 game u see those explosions wow 5s all way

Tbh, yeah I agree it does look alright, nothing to crazy.. I really hope it does good tho, just for the people making it. They’ve been working really hard on this game and it will be a bummer if it ends up sucking.

UltraNova2365d ago

True, this goes for all devs.

Agreed look good but nothing spectacular

Is it just me or was the guest crackdown game just perfect mixture of fun and gameplay. It had very stylish cell shade like graphics. Can't judge this from a 3-4 minute video let's see once the game is released. Original crackdown is such a underrated game

mark_parch2365d ago

from what I've seen so far it looks fun. I don't think it will hold my attention for to long with all the other great games coming out but still pretty excited to give it a go.

Obscure_Observer2365d ago (Edited 2365d ago )

For a "awful looking game" that could be developed by a junior dev according to rainslacker, i´m impressed. :)

Doesn´t look like a Xbox 360 game imo.

rainslacker2365d ago (Edited 2365d ago )

You're easily impressed then. Game doesn't look awful, but nothing too impressive.

But this does look better than the cloud demo, or prior showings, which did look like they could be made by a game design student. That said, I've seen games that look better than this from junior game students. Though they wouldn't have as many game play elements, since students don't typically go that much in depth in their projects

You do know that I can change my mind given new information though right? It doesn't look like a 360 game, but it doesn't look like a current gen game either. Maybe somewhere in between. At least in game play. The menus looked good I suppose.

Anyhow, the compression on this video is God awful.

That said, you really are way too hung up on me, and what I've said in the past. As always, you end up looking obsessed with proving me wrong, more than you care about the actual topic at hand.

Obscure_Observer2364d ago

@rainslacker

Cheer up, man. It has nothing to do with proving you right or wrong. You´re entitled to your opinions just like everybody else.

You´ve been trashing this game for a long time, but you achieved an all time low when you said that a student could make this game. That´s was low level trolling, so, i think it´s just fair to call you out on this.

Not sure what you meant about something between last and current gen graphics. It´s a cell shaded game and i don´t recall of any open world cell shaded game that looks better than this. Maybe it´s just me.

rainslacker2364d ago (Edited 2364d ago )

I said a student can make a game that looks like this. The game has a bigger scope than most student projects. Looks and scope of the game play are different things.

If you're going to say I said something, at least say what I said properly.

Some basic lighting effects added to Unity could manage what was shown here.

" i don´t recall of any open world cell shaded game that looks better than this. Maybe it´s just me."

It is just you. Because you're equating looking better than everything before as somehow next gen graphics. The graphics in this game are somewhere between this gen and last. It doesn't look bad. It probably couldn't be handled on last gen, but this gen is certainly capable of more. Cell shaded or not. Cell shading isn't less demanding than other graphcs, although they use less lighting. It's cool your fine with it, but don't act like just because its cell shaded it doesn't need to hold up to some standard.

Obscure_Observer2364d ago

@rainslacker

"It's cool your fine with it, but don't act like just because its cell shaded it doesn't need to hold up to some standard."

And what "standard" would that be? I said that i hadn´t seen any open world cell shaded game that looks better than this. You said that Crackdown 3´s graphics are sub-par on a current gen level. So, how about you actually give exemples/name of actuall current gen open world cell shaded games that "lives up to some standart", according to you?

I´ll wait.

Christopher2365d ago

Looks okay. A prettier Crackdown.

Need to see more. No clue why they didn't show more of the gameplay. Most IGN firsts like this are uncut 15m of gameplay.

Christopher2365d ago

Additionally, I like that they have specific agents but hope they are more unique than just leveling boosts in two skills and looks. AoM really did a good job with unique agents but failed in co-op.

isarai2365d ago

Looks to hold many of the minutiae that made the first one so fun, so i'm eager to get my hands on this when it comes out.

rainslacker2365d ago

Looks better than the Arena cloud demo they showed. They should have led with this instead of that IMO.

Obscure_Observer2364d ago

@rainslacker

"Looks better than the Arena cloud demo they showed. They should have led with this instead of that IMO."

What? Never heard of any game that features both SP and MP which the MP portion of the said game has better/detailed graphics in comparisson with its SP counterpart. Crackdown 3´s SP graphics looking better than its MP mode graphics is nothing but expected!

rainslacker2364d ago (Edited 2364d ago )

Dude....just stop. The MP looked horrid. It looked like a last gen game. An early last gen game at that. The graphics were terrible, the animations sucked(which they still did here), and the big cloud destruction was a huge let down.

Slightly less impressive online graphics is one thing, but this looks like a completely different game on the SP. It looked better, and it would have been better for them to lead with this. Or maybe not, because then the MP graphics would have been even more disappointing.

I understand you need to go all defense force mode On, but come on, this constant defense of what looks like crap just makes you look foolish.

You know....you have a penchant for saying how harsh I am on games. But then when I go saying things don't look that bad, you keep poking me to say how I really feel. Instead of conceding that something looks decent, but nothing special, but being fair and understanding that some people may be OK with it or like it, you keep wanting me to say much more honest opinions about all the sh*t games that MS has released the past few years, or how MS only cares about services and is going to screw you all in a F2P shovel ware model that is most definitely coming. BUt of course you won't see it, because in the short term, they'll make it look great.

You keep accusing me of being unfair to MS. But when do you ever let me just make a fair statement about MS without trying to say I said other things, or trying to troll me to say even more? Even times when I praised them because I actually felt they did something right, you can't help but turn it around on me by bringing some other topic into the conversation I had a opinion on at some point....and then of course ignore anything that I said that might be positive.

If you want brutal honest truth from me, then I will give it, and it will not make MS look good, because I am capable of saying everything MS does wrong, and why they aren't your friend, and don't give a crap about you if you aren't some recurring subscribing customer. Spencer has played people like you since taking over. Congratulations, you are just a corporate lackey...and the worst part is, you pay MS for that privilege.

"which the MP portion of the said game has better/detailed graphics in comparisson with its SP counterpart"

Yeah...that power of the cloud....amirite?

MoshA2365d ago

Lol, it looks like an early last-gen game. Compare it to Red Faction or Saints Row 3.

Muzikguy2365d ago

It doesn't look that impressive to me. Sure it may be fun but I don't see why people would wait so long for this one game and hype it so much

sinjonezp2365d ago

I hate to say it. Just because this game has been in development for years, and we see what the new Just Cause explosions and weather an physics look like, I agree that it just looks “aight”

Razzer2366d ago

Pretty cool that the world level is separate from the agent level. Not bad looking overall.

Potnoodle9992365d ago

God... it looks dreadful, the vid link must have sent us to seperate videos I guess

Razzer2365d ago

I have seen dreadful looking games. This is not a dreadful looking game.

Livingthedream2365d ago

Yup looks good, looks like they captured what Crackdown is all about. IMO the online is what is going to really make or break this game.

moomoo3192365d ago (Edited 2365d ago )

I didnt really understand the seperate agent/world thing, but now it makes more sense. I guess you have 5 different world slots to grind through with different agents, incase you eat up all the content in one world and want to start a new character. This seems most usefull for drop in co-op though, does this game have online co-op??

Neonridr2366d ago

nice to see the game is actually a thing and we will finally see a release date in the near future.

purple1012366d ago

IT SAYS PLAY FEB 15TH AT THE END OF THE TRAILER

Neonridr2366d ago

no I meant that we will actually see it release finally. Sorry. Worded that weird.

lelo2play2366d ago

I predict this game will be somewhere between 6 and 7.

Potnoodle9992365d ago

Agreed, I don’t think it will go as low as 5 but it really wouldn’t surprise me, so bad looking for what was supposed to be one of their flagship titles

Obscure_Observer2365d ago (Edited 2365d ago )

@Potnoodle999

Crackdown 3 as previous Crackdow games, is a cell shaded game and always has been. No need to go cinematic/realistic to please fanboys who never gave a damn about this game.

The true Crackdown fans will be pleased. And that´s good enough.

I hope you feel that way about other games that try to cater too much to others and change for them while leaving their fanbase behind. It happens far too often

@gaming

No, that's not why. He's talking about good enough since it would be more in line with what fans would expect and that's a good thing not a bad one. Has nothing to do with scores

fiveby92365d ago

I hope the game is good. I imagine IGN will give it an 8 or better regardless. They are essentially a business partner of MS. That's how they get all these first look deals with publishers. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. But that said, I hope the game exceeds my expectations.

l33t_haxx0r2365d ago

You know for a fact it will get 9 and 10 everywhere and everyone will be like wait what

Sgt_Slaughter2365d ago

Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 say otherwise.

2365d ago
Razzer2364d ago

How would anyone know for a fact what scores Crackdown 3 will get?

spicelicka2365d ago

If the original creators are involved it could be a big surprise. The first Crackdown sits at an 83 average and it's the type of game that just doesn't look as impressive as it really is when you play it.

rainslacker2365d ago (Edited 2365d ago )

This looked like it could be some good dumb fun. 7 or so seems fairly appropriate given what's been shown so far, but I think a lot of the scores are probably going to be judging the cloud tech itself. I don't think the last showing of the cloud tech really lives up to the expectations or promises, so it could get dinged for that. If there is copious content available, then maybe it could help the score.

We should know soon enough.

Tencent to buy Crackdown and Sackboy developer Sumo in $1.3bn deal

Tencent is really buying up everything. I'm surprised everyone is selling to them like this.

Rebel_Scum1424d ago

They want/need capital I guess.

darthv721424d ago

No way they are worth that much. They are a support studio. I guess tencent decided to throw them an insane price that Sumo would be crazy to turn down.

Its like the godfather. "Im going to make you an offer you cant refuse"

UltraNova1424d ago

Always the case.

Who owns the rights to Crackdown and Sackboy IPs though?

boing11424d ago

I've heard some time ago, that they created a special unit that has a mission to search for acquirable devs all around the globe.

-Foxtrot1424d ago

Going off their business practices they seem like a cancer in this industry

chinese currency, no limit in printing, but they are selling in USD

PrinceAli1424d ago

Maybe because they're a publisher of games with a history of success loool..?

barom1424d ago

Even Microsoft can’t compete with that kind of money.

Zeref1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

Uhm yes they can.. What do you mean?

Zeref1424d ago

Money talks, Besides, those developers don't need to worry about income anymore.

enkiduxiv1424d ago

I doubt anyone that matters to the actual production of the games is getting a raise. The only thing that has changed is that now they can't buy any Winnie the Poo products for their kids.

senorfartcushion1424d ago

Well they’re allowed. America and China are leading the world in toxic capitalism.

n1kki61424d ago

As publicly traded companies it's either they sell and potentially get more, or tencent initiates a hostile takeover and buys at least 51% of the shares. These companies might not even be amicable to the buy out but opt to take it because hostile takeovers are terrible.

frostypants1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

Yep. A company that built itself by ripping off IP of small, innovative developers and out-marketing them. Tencent is everything wrong not just with gaming but corporate ethics in general, and the assymetric regulatory playing field we for some reason permit from the Chinese government. Egregiously corrupt companies like Tencent should be banned from the US market.

senorfartcushion1424d ago

The US market would take Tencent to dinner and have it naked on the bed by midnight if it could. America and China are as bad as each other

Lightning771424d ago

They can take Sumo those devs really aren't that great. Sack boys big adventure scored good however but Crackdown 3 wasn't great. They're 50/50 Sony will find a suitable replacement for Sack boy. MS desperately needs a suitable replacement for crackdown, if it's not already too late in terms of fanfare at this point.

Sumo to me isn't that big of a deal there are better devs out there.

senorfartcushion1424d ago

Crackdown 3 was cancelled and remade a few times. Hardly their fault.

darthv721424d ago

This is the same Sumo who made Outrun 2, 2006 Coast to Coast, Sonic Racing Transformed as well as Forza Horizon 2 on the 360. I think they are better than you give them credit for.

Wulfer1424d ago

You might want to walk this statement back. Why else do you think this game goes for over $200 now?

ScootaKuH1424d ago

I'm surprised Sumo are valued so high

solideagle1424d ago

yeah, thats what I thought. $1.3 billion is very high, Insomniac sounds like a bargain deal for Sony!

chadwarden1424d ago

And they likely bought Housmarque and Bluepoint for even less than Insomniac.

phoenixwing1424d ago

at the two above me,
it's easy to sell for less when you know you're in good hands business and culture wise. I mean sure you could scratch out some extra money elsewhere but are all the people you know going to be taken care of when you get bought out? Sony takes care of them. Basically you can tell who's a scheming money scumbag by what ceo's/execs choose to be bought by. In the end money talks but there's extras to consider sometimes.

roadkillers1424d ago

I am as well. They do not own any IPs from my understanding...

DOMination-1424d ago

Me too! After looking them up, it seems like they were the parent of other game studios: Lab42, Red Kite, Sumo India, The Chinese Room and PixelAnt Games and also have some cryptocurrency technology.

They may also still hold the IP for back when they were Gremlin Interactive.. back in the Amiga days they were really a dev of some repute.

ScootaKuH1424d ago

Gremlin. Now there's a name that takes me back. Ocean as well.

Teflon021424d ago

They're not, it's likely them just throwing money around to make sure they have no opposition. Sumo is a valuable developer as they've assisted in alot of great games. They did LBP3, Sackboy, Sonic Transformed, I believe Assisted in both ModNation Racers and LBPK, Team Sonic racing, just to name the few off the top of my head that I own.

IRetrouk1424d ago

I honestly thought ms or Sony would have nabbed them, seeing as they have worked for both on their respective ips, colour me surprised.

Bennibop1424d ago

It's a lot of money for a group with no ips, what would they have worked on to keep so many studios and staff employed. For now at least they continue working on ips for the likes of Sony and Microsoft.

IRetrouk1424d ago

Sony and ms have more than enough ips to keep em busy, the price would have been an issue though, that I agree with, just surprised is all🤷‍♂️

frostypants1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

Tencent doesn't exactly pride themselves on original IP anyway. They just steal someone else's. They only need developer drones.

Sephiroushin1424d ago

They have enough to make them busy but there is no point in buying the studio that high, they could just make the developers some offers and thats it... heck every single developer could just quit the studio and with what is tensen left? no point in buying a studio with no IP you dont own the developers

IRetrouk1424d ago

I already agreed that the price was high, still don't take away that they could have been used, and be useful to either ms or sony

bunt-custardly1701d ago

Oh right, I didn't get the joke sorry, it just clicked. Hmm, is Crackdown 3 really that bad/universally hated especially as it's on gamepass?

SullysCigar1701d ago

My attempt at humour could have been clearer, in hindsight..!

Yeah, sadly Crackdown 3 had been hyped so hard and so long by Microsoft, that when it launched as a mediocre game, it got panned. It was mainly the broken promises about the power of the cloud I think that did it. This was the 'cloud power' poster child for years and it all amounted to nothing, which is a real shame, because if they'd realised their initial vision it could have been special.

bunt-custardly1701d ago

I do remember the original vision where entire buildings could be demolished but wasn't that feature relegated to the multiplayer mode? For me, Crackdown 3 comes across quite generic. I suppose if it had the full destruction in the story mode that would have been bad-ass. If Red Faction Guerrilla can do it why not CD?

FanboySpotter1701d ago

Crackdown 3 was made for crackdown fans. Hated by non crackdown fans. Enjoyed by crackdown fans.

MadLad1701d ago

I played it on PC for a little while via gamepass. It's not nearly as terrible as people would try to make it out to be, but it's the definition of a "meh" game.

IanTH1701d ago

100%. This is obviously just showing what can be done with the current highest end hardware, rather than what should be. And if you're splashing out for an RTX 3090 over a 3080 for gaming (small performance delta if not using that huge buffer for productivity), then I guess you'll also consider splashing out for an 8k screen. And, I mean, you'll want to be able to do *something* with it lol.

outsider16241701d ago

Let's be honest here, even with extra high settings at 8k 120fps... it'll still look like crap. Sorry.
