How Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden Got Me Into Turn Based Strategy

From PlayStation Universe: "Time to be straight up with you lot. If you thumb your way through the review history of PlayStation Universe you’ll notice that my name appears precisely not once against any PS4 game that involves turn-based strategy. The reason? I suck at them. Hard."

It's really good so far. Hard since you only get three people on your squad. I really wish there were more tactics type games out for consoles.

Have you played XCOM and/or Mario+Rabbids? How would you compare them to Road to Eden?

I haven't played Mario+Rabbids but I have played Xcom.

So far I would still put Xcom above Mutant. But Mutant is still great and a whole lot of fun.

I like that Mutant has a map with separate areas you can explore and you don't have to automatically engage with the enemy in these areas.

You can also stealth kill some enemies and pick off the weaker ones without alerting the rest which is a cool feature. But I found this only worked in the first few stages before every enemy starts to become the same or higher level than you.

My biggest issue so far with Mutant is the line of sight when attacking enemies. Sometimes, I swear, I'll be behind cover with a sure as all out line of sight on an enemy and will still get the message "No chance of hitting". It drives me insane because the enemies sure as hell can hit my characters on their turn.

Another small issue with Mutant is only having three members in your squad. Especially when you're up against 5 or 6 enemies and some of those enemies call in help. You get overwhelmed real quick. I have no idea why they made that design decision.

The story for Mutant so far is cool, and whoever is the voice actor for the Boar reminds me of Martin Sheen doing the narration for Apocalypse Now.

It definitely scratches that tactics itch.

I'm gonna have to start staying away from these type of articles since there's always a chance I'll buy at least 2 games and in the current state that the world is in, I'm about to be a father so i gotta prioritize my son but goddamn I'd buy at least 5 games from this list.

Mutant Year Zero (shown), is a good little game if you like Xcom style combat.
