Obsidian's Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky said The Outer Worlds has 'really good' melee. They got 'great tips' from an expert on how to make solid FPS combat, as they didn't want fans to dislike combat as in previous Obsidian titles.
Awesome. I hope they have learned their lessons from trying to add in melee to Fallout New Vegas. Would love to see the opportunity to play the whole game as a melee barbarian type.
I'll believe it when I see it, but hopefully it's as good as they say -- I kind of prefer to club things to death in RPGs.
I'm certainly looking forward to it. Obsidian knows how to make a great game and enhancing combat, which is traditionally the weaker part of an RPG, is always good
I never understand why it isn't so obvious to developers: RPG plus great combat equals WIN. So simple, isn't it? Although maybe not so simple to pull off...
Jade empire, really xbox game. I just kept jumping over the enemies lol
Remember those Riddick games? They had great fistfights. Even the Darkness games did an okay job with melee combat. Oh and Shadow Warrior has fantastic melee, both those games are awesome. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this game. It's not open world which is a nice change of pace and their pedigree is unquestionabe.
Sweet. I think condemned criminal origins had the most fun FP melee out of the games I have played.
I was just about to comment and say the same thing, Condemned and it's sequal were awesome games.
I wont support a company that sold their soul to microsoft. The obsidian that existed and made their great games is dead.
That’s a bit harsh. You might be right about them being a different obsidian but they tried the indie game and the fun ran out. Maybe they didn’t have a choice and Microsoft has gone on record saying they would leave their creative freedom intact. So look at it from a rational point of view and not a religious one lol. Their existence was probably betting on the success of outer worlds. Maybe they didn’t have the resources to even finish outerworlds and it was a dead end. Obsidian was probably one game away from bankruptcy and then Microsoft gives them an offer. We will keep you separate from inxile and you’ll have the funding to make the games you want for my brand. If that’s “selling your soul” then the alternative would be vaporizing your soul. This isn’t a bad thing, obsidian has the potential to be a Sony level studio on their writing and single player focus alone.
Just give Microsoft another chance. Chance number 27. You never know.
Good then don't!
Why aren't half the comments for this game people crying about it not having a third person option?
Don’t give the babies any ideas. They will add it too their list of things to cry about.
Because obsidian never said it was a 3rd person shooter RPG. Something CD project red did say. But it still doesn't make it right for us to complain without even playing the game By the way obsidian have said they may add a 3rd person view via a patch later
I've read many, many complaints about the lack of third person in Cyberpunk and not once have I heard that CDPR lied about it having such a mode, can you provide a source for that? I also couldn't find anything about Obsidian saying that this game might have it added in a future patch but meh, Fallout had it so it's possible. Never mind that it made the game clumsy and awkward looking AF, I guess it kept people happy.
This is the first I'm hearing about CDPR changing from third to first person. I thought that everyone just assumed it would be third person.
I really like the look of this game.
Really hyped for this game.
"Oh boy here I go killing again!" Kind of game. Loving the way it looks.
