The Most Disappointing Games of 2018

95% of all the games I've bought this entire year have been fun & I bought a lot of games.There are 2 games I'm somewhat disappointed with & that's Deaths Gambit & RDR2,still in the early stages of both games so I'll eventually go back to them once I finished with all of my recent & backlog of games.

I have yet to make a really bad purchase this year so I can't comment on these games ( I haven't bought one of them) but at the moment my disappointing purchase of 2018 (I blame the media) has to be Spiderman Ps4
Now the game isn't bad or broken it's even quite good but If I believe the media the game was a GOTY contender (will probably win on Gamespot) well it's not (or Batman Arkham Origin in 2013 should have scored a 10).
The story is great but the side missions are so repetitive and offer no rewards that I stop to care about them.

I do love open world games, and I liked the game but I have yet to see why this game surpasses game like Assassin's Creed, Farcry Batman, and others.

for me, it's the opposite regarding Spider-man. it's developed by Insomniac is one thing, that's an assurance that the game will at least won't be terrible considering their track record but being a Spider-man game is another, where we haven't got a great Spider-man game in a while. I dived in with no high expectation and then BAAM...the game delivers as the best Spidey game by far and I love everything about it. my GoTy is still GoW but Spider-man definitely is in my surprise list of hits this year.

Happy for you! Perhaps the difference with me is: you played it with 0 expectations while I bought it 1 month after release when all media and review were praising it as the new measuring stick.
As I said, I enjoyed the main campaign but the rest (side mission, collecting stuff, tower, etc) is worse compare to you're average Ubisoft game.

It would be my GOTY if not for God of War. Some of the side missions were repetitive, but the overall gameplay was fantastic. Finding all the suits and trying out the various powers was awesome. And the webslinging mechanic was just so good. The main story was great. Not perfect game by any means, but overall a great experience.

Not sure why you blame the media regardless. Spider-man was well-received by reviews and gamers alike. Just because you didn't like it....it is the media's fault? That makes no sense.

I never said I didn't like the game, I really like it and complete it with satisfaction but yes I'm disappointed because my expectations were to play this amazing game that would define the system like GOW or Bloodborne and not playing a good Ubisoft game like Assassin's Creed or Farcry (again good game I'm currently enjoying Farcry5).

Now the reasons I blame the media is because they are the one setting my expectations and are also hurting the sales of good games from other games studio like Ubisoft.
Let me give you an explanation of what I mean:
Back in 2013, media gave Batman Arkham Origin an average score (Gamespot score it 6/10) and the game didn't perform well in terms of sales due to the reception of the game.
Now I did play the game with low expectations (not at release) and found it as good as the other Batman Arkam games and loved some of the new ideas like detective mode and multiplayer.

Now in 2018, media are saying Spiderman is an amazing game (Gamespot scored it 9/10) making it a successful sales wise. So please tell me what's making this game so much better compared to the average 2013 Batman Arkham game?
Story? both were praised as incredible
Gameplay? again both were praised
Multiplayer? only Batman has one
Side mission? Each of Batman side missions was different in nature and mostly end with a boss fight vs Spiderman are quite repetitive and offer no climax ( Tks Black Cat for the suit but a boss fight or a Cutscene would have been nice)
So plz tell me because the only plus I can name is seeing civilians in the street vs only criminals for Batman.

And you could ask the same thing for Spiderman vs Assassin's Creed, Vs Farcry, vs Lords of the ring, vs Watchdog, etc..

So Again, I loved the game and finished but no I don't feel that this game is way better compared to the likes of Farcry 5, Watchdog, Just Cause, etc... like the media would like me to believe.

There are some Ubisoft elements in the game, just like there are in a ton of open world games, but they do not define Spider-man. I described what I thought was awesome and none of that comes from Ubi games. Bottom line is that you didn't like the game as much as others. That's fine. The billing and expectations, imo, fit the game. I think that is true for most overall. But it is fine if your opinion differs, but that isn't anyone's fault. It just happens when you don't jive with a game like most. I'm the same when it comes to Zelda: BOTW.

Tks for your point of view and I agree it's my opinion and my perception of the game and not a general consensus.
I also, agree with you about Zelda BOTW for the same reasons list above (especially vs Farcry).
