Agreed that parent's should be very careful where and with whom they let their kids play. For myself, I don't care for auto voice enablement in MP games. I prefer friends only, or at least voice comms request first before I enable on just any random person. If FO76 has the typical voice controls in place, like exist in ESO, then I'd consider playing but if not, then it is a no play for me. I just don't have the patience for having to listen to randoms at night in my games if it was uninvited commentary. .

I would recommend Discord. I've been using it for as long as I can remember owning a gaming PC. I only hear the voices of those that I invite into my chat room on there. Obviously this was a tough situation, having in game chat enabled from the character creation screen, which is just odd and I expect them to change that before the game releases.

I going to talk no more about what I saw. Last days on Xbox any player want to trolling or disturbed other players.
There was almost a fear to contact with another player. Beta days passed away on the week and everybody finally was habituated to see people. The contact was ignored directly , the fear didn't exist at this point, the players just ignored others. You could go to the same location with 4 guys and everybody just ignored all.
I know, that this utopic situation will be never possible on the final version, but the fact you see other people using a work station, crafting items on your same desk, taking object or completing missions , was enough to see that players doesn't want to take the game on coop mode. They prefer to go alone.
Yes, the real humans implementations have a good set and background on fallout. You see a man? Ok he is a survivor , no more random , static NPCs ...(and trust me, the lore has a lot of included by terminals, letters, tapes) ... The lore is still here. But, if you coop, if you formed a squad just to play together, aww just isn't works. Why? Simply because you are crafting stopping in a corner , watching any detail or worse, reading your notes, running through your tables/menus/HUB and your partner is over.
Your partner has HIS rhythm, and now he is in another building/site. Every single player has his OWN rhythm because this is a rpg.
So, there was any type of content to force the cooperation?
Well, there were events like drop supplies.... (Yep, like a fps or like Ubisoft' the division) these events were avaible with quick travels. I suppose the fights that implies this but anyway, I see this game on a coop vision to take specifics tasks (kill a big boy, complete a terrible raid..) but that all.
Sure, we can due witj others just for trolling, or killing everybody. So, would the game can hold its system? Maybe when trolls broke the game and so many deaths comes, players just skip the game.

Sure there are individuals like you encountered in online games. What I do. And what everyone should do is to talk to these players. When I encounter players like that I say it as it is. "Stop talking nonsense or I'll report you". Often the response is even more nonsense. Where I reply "I'm recording this and I got your name".

This is something all the consoles and PC do if you set it up to do so. In 9 of 10 times the person then stops. Often apologizing and sometimes to my surprise opening up of to why they are having such a silly moment in a game we all just want to have fun in.

I play allot of Sea of Thieves. A game where there is proximity voice chat just like in Fallout 76. And I've meet allot of great people. Had so much fun with random people and encounters you can just forget in singleplayer games.

And is why I'm so excited for Fallout 76. I played the beta last night and had a great time doing so. Had a player who's microphone was messed up so he walked around broadcasting some horrible static noise for everyone in the area. I just went in to the main menu and a list of all the players came up. Muted him and continued my adventure.

So you can mute players. You can even turn off proximity voice chat and only open up it for your group etc. So there are options available.

That said I cant recommend enough having an open mic and proximity chat. It opens up for some fantastic encounters and fun.

Sure there will be bad encounters but you/we cant let a few bad apples ruin all the fun can we?

As vile a situation as it was, with racism being unacceptable and abhorrent to most, with the almost anonymous nature of online gaming, this sort of incident is going to occur occasionally. Sadly, not everyone who lives on this planet, are nice people. It is down to the other players to inform that individual they are not welcome, and report to the company running the game, so as to get that individual banned. Hopefuly Bethesda have a speedy facility to do this, as it will sadly happen again. Now we have the ability to record in game footage, and the ability to use smartphones to clearly record as well, there is no excuse for those running the games not to investigate, and when warranted, ban a user and his IP address from the servers. It would be totally impractical for Bethesda to have an observer on each server, but surely a Bethesda employee could quickly visit one if a serious communication is made. I have witnessed abhorrent behaviour online before, but I have reported it and carried on gaming. Don't let one idiot put you off having a good time. There are more decent players out there, who will happily play alongside you and share the fun too.

Having played most of the day's major MMOs you CAN find refuge from the cesspool online. There are guilds, regular folk, and good people online 10x more than that one asshole screaming his rhetoric in all caps. Do not give in or give ground by making a space for them.

I game online but 76 is a different breed as far as online experience. I can't say that on a server with a few dozen folks, if one or two were how you described I wouldn't do the same. But if you want to game online I would recommend: WoW, FF XIV, Eve, SWTOR, Warframe, RuneScape (bit dated but the community was great)

Technically, this happens daily on MOBA games. A lot too many children play those kinds of games and the parents may never know what's going on on those games. Children usually play poorly so they should be receiving tons of trash talks and nasty remarks from their teammates and enemy alike. This is a sad reality.
