How essential is it to play the first Divinity Original Sin? I never did and really want this one ? Do you guys think it'll matter much? Aside from certain nods to it and the likes ?

It is not necessary to play D:OS 1 first. As good as D:OS 1 was, D:OS 2 is even better.

I played this without having finished the first one, it's fine! Then again, playing this made me want to play the first one too, so there's that! =D

The only downside to the console version I can see if the lack of Game Master mode. But the campaign constructed by Larian is great.

Yes, it does! Pretty darn good, too. Quick tip, go ahead and pick the 'pet pal' perk when creating your character, you'll get to talk to animals, and man, those guys have the best lines and voice acting. You'll be missing out not doing that!
