Bethesda announced that Doom Eternal will come to Switch alongside other platforms, but is still uncertain on whether it could achieve the same for Rage 2.
I feel like it could if they simplify the art style to a less photoreal visual style, much like many Wii games did to their PS3/360 counterparts, or like FF XV is doing on mobile
It could work but the question is whether or not people would want it...
Why wouldn't people want games on their console of choice?
Spoilers; it won't. Not as intended anyway. 360p, 20fps, below minimum settings + lower with content removed, then, maybe.
360p, 20fps? it's a Switch not a PS Vita
How do DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 perform again? Always below 20fps and never above, resolutions between 360p and 480p for the most part. Watch a little Digital Foundry, expecting an open-world game to perform the same or better is lunacy!
Doom and Wolf perform better than that for the majority of the time. One digital foundry article doesn't represent the majority's experiences. Stop. Spreading. Lies.
Please be serious, the Digital Foundry videos cover day 1 performance and patch "improvements", the majority of the gameplay is sub-HD regardless of docked or undocked on DOOM whilst never hitting 30 + being at the lowest settings, I can't imagine late game content on the hardest difficulty, it would run akin to WWE 2K18 I suspect. Because it can "run" these games, doesn't mean it should!
Yes but it will be a heavily gimped version, Switch should focus more on indie games like Octopath Traveler and not AAA games like Rage 2.
Octopath is not indie. On the indie, AA games, and exclusive games front they have all that covered already. Which is why it is smart for Nintendo to try and get more AAA game on the Switch.
Cool story...except Octopath is not indie as it was published by SquareEnix... *resumes playing Wolfenstein 2, Dragonball FightersZ, and Ys VIII from my hotel room natively from the device itself*
I don’t know if this is possible, but they could always break down the game into levels/sections instead of having a huge open world. However, then there is the game’s price to consider. They have to charge it lower than other versions.
Given its an open world compared to other linear games there would be a lot of sacrifices required to get this running in hand-held mode. Reading the article explains that it's not using the same engine as doom and wolfenstein
I don't think the performance overhead is there on base PS4 and XB1 to allow a studio like Panic Button to tweak this for Switch. Doom at least runs at 60FPS a fair bit of the time on those systems, with similar visuals to what Rage 2 is offering in an open world, but Doom's performance target on Switch is 30FPS, with recent patches I think it's running close to that a lot of the time, still Rage 2 is 30FPS on the base PS4 and XB1, a Switch version would need hefty overhauling of physics and AI to simplify code to allow for a 30FPS 720p docked version. I don't see this game getting a Switch release, unless it's made for the rumoured enhanced Switch.
I dont know why anyone is focused on bringing these technologically demanding games to the Switch when it is more than apparently the platform is best suited to different games. What happened to the days of stylized graphics that arent demanding but rather emanate beauty in other ways. We dont need Rage 2 on Switch, we need more original titles.
