"No Man's Sky" is best known as that ambitious space exploration game that had a topsy-turvy debut. Hello Games effectively hyped the game although gamers who tried it out ended up disappointed.

Yea and the framerate took a nose dive with the update and the game has crashed multiple times on my PS4 Pro. I needed up just deleting it.

mixelon2094d ago

That’s a shame, if anything the performance has improved drastically on the windows version for me. :/

mkis0072094d ago

ya i double dipped ...got the pc version...$27 greenman...runs great , only 1 crash in 9 hours. ps4 kept crashing after save.

DarkVoyager2094d ago

“That’s a shame, if anything the performance has improved drastically on the windows version for me.”

Performance is bad on PC as well.

“No Man's Sky Next on PC: brilliant visuals but performance is concerning

Performance is fine, but not at max settings. My system is fair to middling: i5-6500, 6GB GTX1060, 16GB 2166MHz DDR4. MSI B150 mobo allows no overclocking. My monitor is an old 1360x768 Samsung LCD. I'm sure that resolution helps, but my GPU utilization reads between 33% and 45% most of the time, never spiking above 50%. So I have lots of headroom.

Settings:
Reflections and Shadows - Medium
Textures - High
Max Frame Rate: MAX (uncapped)
HBAO - On
Anti-Alias - TAA
Light Shafts - Off
Motion Blur - Off

Forced in Nvidia Control Panel (these override in-game settings):
16X Anisotropic Filtering
Triple-Buffering
Vsync (60Hz)

I get a locked 60 fps except stutter when new terrain (e.g., planets) first loads up. This is regardless of details or activity. Looks terrific, I think. I have no qualms about these compromises. Higher settings are too expensive for the minimal improvements. I have no doubt that beefier/newer CPUs and GPUs can be made to perform just as well at 1080p, and maybe even 1440p, with similar settings. My CPU is 2 generations old now, almost 3, and middle-of-the-road even back then. The GPU is still smack in the middle.

one2thr2094d ago

Lock the frame rate, and put your system in 1080p mode.

I've done that, and had no crashes since.

uth112094d ago

the pro seems to have the most issues. wait for the bug fixes

DothrakiSea2094d ago

No problems for me. I've played it for probably 20 hours since the NEXT update and got kicked off once when the PS Network had maintenance. Sounds like it is your Pro to me. I thought about selling mine and buying a new one due to crashes and it running as loud as a jet plane, instead I just dusted it inside and out with compressed air and went into Safe Mode and Rebuilt the Database. Now it runs quite and doesn't crash.

Cobra9512094d ago

Patience. Consoles have to go through update certifications. There have been 3 updates since NEXT was released. The game is now up to v 1.52.2 on PC. I think consoles are at 1.51. Lots of bugs getting squashed per update. The patch notes are lengthy.

I think I might buy thus again and give it another shot. It seems like Mr Murray and his team have been working their buts off and I believe in second chances. Looks and sounds 100 times better then the initial release. Good job Sean and team

mkis0072094d ago

It still is a love it or hate it game. To some people the gameplay will be only repetitive. Glad I find the wonder in the game. Worth it anyway on a pure hours played to dollar cost ratio.

Mr Lahey2094d ago

People are so full of it. It is the same game with the same flaws/strength's. People act like it is a whole new experience.. I loved this game from the start but it is still exactly the same game with some minor tweaks.

uth112094d ago

i've played since launch too, it has changed considerably. yes some things are still there from launch, but a lot has changed.

it feels more coherent now

DothrakiSea2094d ago

Not even close, you couldn't build originally. That is an entirely new mechanic, not a minor tweak. Freighters, entirely new, ground vehicles, entirely new, multiple mission systems, entirely new, character customization, entirely new, multiplayer, entirely new, crafting system, entirely overhauled, upgrade system, entirely overhauled, that's just off the top of my head, I haven't nearly experienced everything new, haven't even touched the new story line. Seems to me we know who is full of it. It's cool if you don't like it man, but don't spread lies so people agree with you. Live your own life, leave us to ours.

Mr Lahey2094d ago

@DothrakiSea

Most of what you wrote already was patched in to the game with the Pathfinder patch a long time ago.

DothrakiSea2093d ago

@ Lahey
So what, now it doesn't count? Personally I bought the game at launch, dumped in 60hrs and never played it again until this past weekend. Here is a direct quote from your original statement, "I loved this game from the start but it is still exactly the same game with some minor tweaks." Notice FROM THE START. Once again I say, not true.

Mr Lahey2093d ago

Wtf are you on about? Yes I loved the game since release. It has gone through lots of updates since, and yes it has improved over time. But now when the (very limited) multiplayer aspects gets patched in and they call it NMS Next, everybody is loving it and acting like the game is a whole new experience. It's not. It's the same game even though it has improved over time.

DothrakiSea2093d ago

Apparently I'm on about your lack of English understanding. It appears you agree with everything I said, you just can't figure out that you originally stated the game is the same as at launch. Sorry you misspoke, I forgive you. If you would have originally said, "It's more or less the same game since the pathfinder launch" then we wouldn't be having this discussion. But you didn't say that so I have to call you a liar and let you know that your pants are on fire.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos13h ago(Edited 12h ago)

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers9h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

z2g5h ago

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing4h ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H95h ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola1h ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn6694h ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle4h ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors: "I deserve a lot of criticism."

Embracer CEO demonstrates a masterclass in mental gymnastics in latest interview.
"I'm sure I deserve a lot of criticism, but I don't think my team or companies deserve all the criticism. I could take a lot of that blame myself. But ultimately I need to believe in the mission," he said.

Microsoft Seemingly Closes Bethesda France

As part of its plans to cut 1,900 jobs, Microsoft has reportedly shut down operations at Bethesda France, letting go roughly 15 people

Microsoft should have left them stay 3rd party

GamerRN17h ago

If they are let go, they can be whatever they want. They ARE 3rd party now... 🤦

Barlos15h ago

Yeah, they're also jobless.

GamerRN8h ago

They can form a company if they want, they are just as jobless as if "Microsoft had left them as 3rd party".

peppeaccardo10h ago

"MIcrosoft leaves Bethesda do what they know how to do best" ... close! Oh the irony ....
(Citation from a week old article)

ChasterMies6h ago

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

PassNextquestion20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger17h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Mr Logic4h ago

What a stupid thing to say. The elites give 0 fucks what we say on an obscure website in the comments section.

Crows903h ago

You can always reach out and give them jobs at your company man. Don't wait

Profchaos20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto19h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos19h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long16h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel18h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator17h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.
