Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty! came out in 2014 as a remake of Abe's Oddysee and was critically acclaimed. But four years is a long time in gaming, and Jump Dash Roll decides today whether you should take another bite in its Brutal Backlog.
Starting today, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is free at Epic Games Store. The free game offer runs until December 19 at 11 AM Eastern. Once you claim it, it’s yours to keep.
"If you're a 2D puzzle adventure aficionado who doesn't already own Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty on one of the half dozen consoles that it's currently available for then it'll make for a worthy purchase but those who do have it will find little reason to get it again on Switch." - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums
WTMG's Heidi Hawes: "All Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty! managed to do was frustrate me. However, it did make me appreciate the controls in Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee more. Honestly, if you’re new to the franchise, it might even be better to just skip ahead to Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. At least those gameplay mechanics feel like something more from this era. That being said, if you’re a die hard fan of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee or perhaps just a glutton for punishment, then perhaps try your luck with Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty!."
The first two on world games on PlayStation were my favorite and they still are my favorite games today. They had some of the best graphics you would ever find on PlayStation one, and outstanding story about the corrupted Dark World of corporate business, gameplay that was out of this world and redefined how a puzzle platformer should play, and one of the most unique control systems with voice commands from both the face and the ass LOL. But holy hell the remaster really took everything I loved about the original and turned it into a Play-Doh mush mess of bad controls and gross color palettes. I have a lot of faith that Lorne Lanning and the team can deliver with Soulstorm but this one was a miss for me.
I loved oddworld as a teenager back in the day, this remaster I thought was fantastic looked and played great. I hope they do all the oddworlds like this. Anyway I managed to get a physical copy if this through limited run games when they released it. They on did a 5k print run. I think ut would have sold better in stores personally but I'm glad I got this physically
