I just want to play! To me, it doesn’t matter why a character does what he/she does; the main goal was to simply have fun. Video game stories just aren't good
To me, it seems like you just can’t appreciate good VIDEO GAME stories. Of course, you have to suspend a bit of disbelief when playing video games, even more so compared to movies because you have control of characters at one point but don’t at other points. That is why video games try to keep characters consistent between cutscenes and gameplay. Of course, this can be challenging for certain games (uncharted comes to mind, though it doesn’t bother me) but that’s a topic for another day. Anyways, stories told in video games MUST BE different to the ones told in movies for this reason. Movies will obviously have stories that move at a faster pace than games do because games have gameplay and interactivity. You aren’t doing yourself any favours by comparing video game stories to movie stories. You have to appreciate video game stories for what they are given the medium they are in!
deadly premonition and the nier/drakengard games say hi
Last year had some exceptional stories. Nier was by far my favorite, but there were others like Edith Finch, Wolfenstein, Horizon, ect. that were also very well written.
