Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch) Review - JPS

"For many, the Switch is a gateway to a bunch of new and fascinating series. NIS America has taken full advantage of this by bringing a variety of their beloved series from the PlayStation Vita to Switch. Among them is Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, an action RPG with a fascinating story and plenty of monsters to kill. With them finding success with other titles, such as Disgaea 5 Complete, is Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana another hit or is it a title best left unknown?" - JPS

I think im going to give this game a shot. Graphically primitive but seems to have that old school charm thats hard to find these days

I'm gonna wait for a price drop. It's 14 gigs to d/l and I don't want to pay full price for a game that'll take up so much space. $40 is perfect.

I usually buy physical for switch. Storage is too precious to download AAA retail games. $40 is good. Ill probably wait until its around the same price as the PS4 version

I got a 200GB micro sd earlier this year and already used more than half of it. Until the Switch I never realized how much I value not having to switch game cartridges.

Its sooooo much better having a digital library instead of changing out carts. Maybe ill get a bigger SD card in the future but for now, the 128GB i have is mainly for Nintendo network only stuff. I totally get where your coming from though. With PS4, it works out better for me to do digital because you have to install everything

Hopefully they release the NA version not too long after or at least offer an English dub version for Asia at launch and I would end up buying both.

Abriael608d ago

There's no English version for Asia.

considering Falcom doesn't even allow work to start on localization until the game is complete, I don't see this coming stateside "not too long" after release. It's also why we're so behind with Trails. I mean at this point we're a whole 2 games back with Kuro no Kiseki 2 [I believe] having released almost a year ago in JP.

That being said, I can only hope that if NISA is the publisher for NA that they have time set aside in their schedule to get YsX localized and out the door w/in a year. The good news for Ys is at least there isn't a backlog of games already.

It's always like a year later unfortunately

Love these ys games. Pretty damn good

I like the 2D YS Celceta as well.

I hope these stages and time limits were done for the demo only. I still have to finish 9, love the games but falcom need a bigger budget to upgrade their engine, these games still look like ps2 era graphics lol

I finally played Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana on PS5. Was it worth the wait? | Technobubble Gaming

Jason Hidalgo: "Nearly seven years after first releasing on Vita, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana holds up incredibly well even today. Despite its old-school aesthetics, the game looks nice and runs especially well on the PS5, thanks to its high and consistent frame rate. Granted, the old-school gameplay might not float the boat of folks who want something more modern. For fans of classic JRPGs, however, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana’s interesting characters combined with its fun action combat and base-building and crafting mechanics make it one of the best games I’ve ever played in the genre."
