@Foxtrot I agree with you on that one. I I remember people made a dumb comparison between BOTW and Horizon Zero Dawn. Some people said Horizon Zero Dawn is “average” game which is their opinion. That game have been praised by Critics and consumer alike. What Zelda Breath of The Wild have ? Sure, the gameplay is a main spotlight but the story and the character are just subpar. The machine in HZD is the main spotlight of the game with engaging gameplay, great story, great graphics and great character development. The machine has unique look and they act differently.

BOTW didn't deserve a 10. If the "Zelda" name wasn't attached, it would have never seen even an 8. That was overhype and those perfect scores aren't justified by facts. GTA IV was another over hyped game given so many 10s.

could'nt desagree more. Horizon was indeed fresh from creative and graphical perspective but it was somewhat very shallow in comparison to BOTW. Aside from the combat mechanics it was riddled with fetch quests and towns with nothing to do...take note that i finished horizon on almost 100% completion, quite enjoyed it, but BOTW as a cohesive phisics engine that let's you experiment things.

Botw did deserve all the praise it recieved especially for the platform its on. it is a console calibur open world zelda experience on a hybrid console. Youre out of your mind if you really are trying to downplay botw. Its easy to downplay any game when its been out for a year and Every game has flaws but when botw dropped it was turning heads and selling switches like hotcakes. BoTW was a good game though. Overrated just like Odyssey but they were good. I dont take reviews from critics as the gospel truth but they give me an idea if the game has quality. Not just one site but a general idea if its well made. Ive been let down a few times but i do get good games more often than not based on feedback from critics.

Any person can consider any game overhyped. It doesn't necesarrily mean that the game is over hyped. About the only thing that really judges if a game is overhyped is if the hype doesn't live up to the final results based on consensus of those who play it or talk about it.

Many games which get the random person say they're over hyped tend to deserve the hype they got based on community consensus, but that doesn't mean an individual won't think that it was overhyped.

In the end, one person saying it's over hyped means nothing more than that that person expressing their opinion on the game, and it really shouldn't affect someone else's praise or thoughts on the game.

Just par for the course. Each successive games starts to ramp up the hate before release. Doesn't mean anything when the game finally releases. After release, we'll get all sorts of opinion pieces on why it is terrible and is actually failing, despite positive critical reception, loads of people loving the game, and high sales.

The media just likes to fail over and over again, and it gives the fan boys something to fight about as they at least have a few places that will vindicate their trolling so they can say how they've been right all along, despite never once having a single ounce of personal experience to base their arguments on.

There are good reasons that people can make to point out why BOTW is overhyped though. It's not a bad game, but it does come up short in several places, namely the barren world and a less than impressive and practically non-existent story. But most of the fighting over it was because it was instantly compared to Horizon:Zero Dawn.

Whether BOTW is overhyped or not is really a matter of personal opinion, much like this article, although the conclusion doesn't match what the author seems to think of the game. While being a good game, I think a lot of the reviews over rated it by a point or so, but that doesn't mean that the hype wasn't justified.

Anyhow, it does seem that a lot of exclusive games, regardless of platform, get a lot of these kinds of articles. No reason to try and make it seem like Sony fan boys are just being defensive, because to date, it's easy to understand why people are hyped for this game, and nothing indicates that it will be a bad game, so of course people are going to disagree.

I put 80 hours into BOTW. I kept waiting for the light to come on where I would say "ah....this is what everyone is so excited about". Nope....never happened. For the life of me, I cannot understand the praise BOTW received. The puzzles in the shrines were fun, but I gave up on the rest. My expectations for Spidey are a lot higher than what I received with BOTW....that much is certain. But then again....I didn't grow up thinking Zelda and Mario were the Alpha and Omega of gaming. I think that has a lot to do with it.

But let’s me tell you this, Zelda Breath of The Wild post launch support wasn’t the best because the game have season pass and a hard mode that you have to pay, but you didn’t complain about it. Horizon Zero Dawn post launch support was the best, because GG always listening and gave players Ultra Hard mode for free and a expansion pack that worth more than season pass. God of War keep continue to do that like Horizon Zero Dawn did.

It is what it is, Nintendo games are treated differently. If Nintendo came out with God of War, Uncharted, or Horizon they would score higher. This is of course solely my opinion. I have seen over the last 20 years how holy Nintendo is to reviewers. They get the benefit of the doubt and overlook things that would be graded down elsewhere.

And ya I am mainly a fan of playstation, because the games I have enjoyed playing over most of my gaming life have been almost exclusively there. Maybe this blinds me maybe not.

Spiderman doesn't do its own thing. The moment gameplay was revealed I immediately thought of the Batman, from the combat to stealth. Seems more like Spider-man is fighting the way Spider-man fights. Jumping around. Fluid motions. Some parkour style in there which existed before Parkour even was a thing. Using the environment as a weapon or shield. Slinging around on webs. Using webs as weapons or restraints. So on and so forth.

If that's like Arkham, then is that because it's being influenced by Arkham, or is it just because it's the most logical way to handle the combat? You do realize that both Batman and Spider-man have similar fighting styles. Batman is less acrobatic for the most part, but still it tends to be fluid, with the use of environments and weapons which usually deal with throwing things(akin to shooting webs), or wires to manipulate objects in the environment(akin to using webs to pull stuff).

For everyone who says its like Arkham, I have yet to see a single person tell me how it could be done differently and still seem like it's Spider-man.

Personally, I think the game is deserving of all the excitement surrounding it.

We have a much beloved protagonist, a cast of exciting enemies, gameplay that looks stellar, almost universally positive reports from people who have played it at e3 and the knowledge that it has been developed by one of the best developers in the business.

This article is written for the purpose of soliciting a response from gamers who are excited for the game and providing ammunition to the more extremist Xbox owners who are jealous of the game and want it to fail.

I often wonder if these clickbait articles actually work outside of the vacuum of N4G because I suspect many people are driven away from visiting the sites from which these articles originate. Personally, I make a point of never giving a click to these awful websites.

Truthfully I tend to stay away from the hype. It was the same with days gone and now look at the worry.

We also had that same hype with destiny, the division and no man's sky. Look what we got in return .

The only game I regret not following the hype was the last of us and I ended up getting a copy months after release on my birthday. Man I wished I pre-ordered the statue edition instead.

Anyways, over hyping isn't bad, but you could end up buying a regretful title. Fortunately for me, I no longer buy day one titles as I don't have the time to play them. So bargain bucket prices tend to be my favourite picks (currently on Nioh for £10).

We've actually seen demos of this game or have you been living under a rock? I say 99.999% of games I buy, I haven't actually played them first and just go by impressions. Did something change all of a sudden with this game or something?

I'm not even the biggest Spiderman video game person and I think it looks awesome. I think I've played 1 or 2 Spiderman games and I didn't even come close to finishing them.

OK. Top 25 games of all time. Most of those games came out when there were a lot less rating publications available. When there were fewer publications which could drive down the rating by several points. Before there was this huge push to downrate things based on agenda. Before click bait was necessary to sustain a website through advertising dollars.

Reason for my logic.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is number 2. 19 reviews from what amounts to mostly big publications at the time.
UC2. 105 critic reviews. Not a single negative or mixed review. More 100's than THPS2 got reviews. More 95-99 reviews than THPS2 got reviews. Yet, some reviews which were lower than 95, and one 80, which drive the meta down to 96....2 massive points below THPS2.

Also, funny that you stop at 25, instead of going by the list of 100, because UC2 comes in at 26.

Spiderman hasnt gotten good treatment in movies or games recently so this is nice to see and the game looks incredible. This is very welcome IMO. Overhype must be the name of some enemy. What is Overhype is year after year launching the same crap with zero evolution beside a number in the box.

This game is gonna rock its made by one of the best studios in the market. That does games that Sony players buy.

I don't see how this guy can come to the conclusion the game is overhyped after only 20 minutes of gameplay. He offers little to no backing to this claim. He says the combat is too much like Arkham games and yet it is "exquisite". He says swinging through the city is "so damn fun". He talks briefly about villians but admits he didn't get to fight a boss.

Ok? And that's it? Where is the part where he explains how the game is overhyped?

'Very good' and 'Overhyped' in the same sentence almost sounds like an oxymoron. Besides I haven't heard an insane ammount of hype for this other than mentioning it in the list of sonys crazy line up this year. 'Very good' is all I need to hear, very stoked for this.

What is this author even talking about? He loves everything about it, but it’s not a “killer app”, “over-hyped”. If it’s over-hyped at all it’s because it’s a Spider-man game, follows GoW for Sony and kicks off the fall.

This was never my most anticipated exclusive. It has never been the game I’m most looking forward to. He even says when comparing to Batman that the combat works better in this game. He also loves the recreation of NYC and the web-slinging. This game is exactly as hyped as it should be, a phenomenal game to kick of the Fall season, an app that will sell even more PS4’s, and most likely Insomniac’s best game to date.

Just write an article about what it’s like. Oh wait, then the clickbait theme wouldn’t draw as many hits! Nice! Journalism at its best!

No Spider-man video game has really sold well since PS2 Spider-Man 2 & Spider-Man:The Movie. Likely this Spider-Man with all the Hype will do as well but it really will still just be another Spider-Man video game. If it wasn't an exclusive the Hype would be near zero and likely be just that latest next Gen Spider-Man game.

The last PS4 Spider-Man was The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and it sold something like 500K+. But maybe the latest Spider-Man film and hype will boost the sales numbers?

People get general excitement confused with overhype. Not everything has to be overhype, it can simply just be hype and for good reasons too.

I think the main problem with spidey and maybe a few other superheroes is that we have heard/seen/played the story a million times. I just hope its a new/different spidey this time around. Finding it hard to be excited over the same story thats been told over and over. Game looks good tho in terms of gameplay.

I'm not say that this is how it's going to play. I've only watched what's been publicly released in trailers and gameplay but I'm curious if web swinging will be done similarly to Just Cause 3 grappling hook mechanic. If it is than I can say I can expertly adapt to the controls with ease. Just cause 3 is very fun but I'm hoping the story pieces in Spider-Man are a little better put together. I don't think it's overhyped at all. of the 4 big ones I think it's the least shown while the most put together.

I saw and welcome the similarities to Batman AK. Absolutely loved that game but this is Spiderman and the city is bigger, and its Spiderman, everyones favorite.

Gameplay looks like it would get boring after a day, for me, they need to work on the playability aspect, it has to be a pure joy to swing around the city.
