One of the more unique video genres out there are visual novels. These 15 interactive stories can easily draw you in, and keep you hooked.
I just finished my first play (read?)-through of Steins;Gate. Really enjoyed it. It's often considered the highest point in the genre and with good reason. So, if you wanna see if you can enjoy these kinds of games, if the story of movies like Inception or games like Bioshock Infinite really grab you, than give it a shot.
There are enough visual novels I love on this list that I better check out the others.

Zero Time Dilemma will be released at the end of the month. If you have no clue what this game's about, here's a brief introduction to ZTD and the Zero Escape series.
Man, I still need to check out 999 and Virtue's Last Reward before I dip into this one. I've heard nothing but good things about the series, and I don't know why I haven't tried them yet.
Virtue's Last Reward was the first I played in the series, (never owned a DS) and it took my breath away. I remember starting the game during my week off work, just checking it out. Three days later I'd already put in almost 30 hours, and I was struggling to sleep. Honestly one of the best games I've ever played, and opened up my world to just how great visual novels can be.
As for whether it's the best VN out there... I'd say Danganronpa 2 juuuuuust about edges it. But it's incredibly close. Can't wait for ZTD!
