Westworld is a new mobile game based off of the TV show for the iOS and Android platforms. Your goal is as it is in the TV show, which is to keep your park guests happy by matching the right hosts with the right guests. You also have missions and housekeeping to do behind the scenes and keep your hosts running well. You can match affinities, earn coins and gems, and unlock new parks as you go.
The mobile game based on Westworld has been pulled from stores after being sued by Bethesda for misusing code. It will go offline completely on April 16.
Bethesda have slowly turned into some kind of ravaging monstrosity. I just don't know what's going on at Zenimax. I get intellectual property rights and all, but it still just leaves a bad taste with Bethesda's other shady practices over the last few months.
I'm not advocating that it's ok to steal another companies code or anything. But seriously - Bethesda could have instead claimed royalties, or reach a settlement agreement, and still allowed the game to go ahead. They didn't have to do the draconian thing and shut it down completely, especially after people had bought the game. They don't think about the gamers. Sometimes there's much more going on than just corporate profits, the goodwill of gamers also means something, and right now Bethesda are burning through that goodwill.
Westworld's developers are under fire for allegedly using the same code used for Bethesda's to develop Westworld for mobile.
Bethesda is pointing out that the same bugs that were in an early version of Fallout Shelter are also in Westworld, implying that the exact same code may have been used wholesale in the new game. Because of this, the company has filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for damages and demanding that the Westworld mobile game (at least in its current state) be pulled from app stores.
"The Westworld game is a blatant rip-off of Fallout Shelter," reads the lawsuit. "Working with the same copyrighted computer code used by Fallout Shelter, Westworld has the same or highly similar game design, art style, animations, features and other gameplay elements as Fallout Shelter, all of which are owned by Bethesda."
Unlike the PUBG fiasco, this is a real copyright case. The copyrighted code for Fallout Shelter apparently got used to make Westworld, a game that looks like a reskinned Fallout Shelter. The similarities extend even to bugs, and the same outfit (Behavior Interactive) worked on both games, so they had access to the code. Looks like a slam-dunk to me.
Ha, yeah and if they win, maybe they can finally afford a new graphics engine 🤣
