Nintendo E3 Direct – The Most Disappointing presentation of E3 2018

"Simply put: the Nintendo E3 Direct was very disappointing. It wasn’t awful by any means but it didn’t even come close to last year’s Nintendo E3 presentation. So what went wrong?" - Michael Pyre, Gamer Professionals.

EA maybe, but Sony's conference as far as games go, was pretty decent, not as good as Microsoft's but good.

TekoIie2290d ago

I wouldn't say Sony's was disappointing. I'm personally not into TLOU at all from a gameplay standpoint and felt that two Arkham-esque feeling games was a bit jarring and but there were a lot of good games. Was the presentation ridiculous? Yeah, but that's extremely minor to me.

I don't think Nintendo delivered a bad show by any means but it lacked their most anticipated titles at the time like Metroid and Bayonetta, and even games we know are clearly in development like SMT V, Pikmin 4 and Animal Crossing.

I think thats the thing that let their show down. Good reveals but no huge surprises.

Tigerblud2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

I think they are waiting to take about SMT after Octopath Traveler releases. And won't talk about 2019 Pokemon until after Let's Go.

And no mention of Prime trilogy makes me think it's not coming.

OzzY-waZZy2290d ago

It was so bad their stocks plunged 16% and as of now haven't recovered... yeah it was bad.

"Sony"
Ghosts of Tsushima
Spiderman
TLOU 2... say hi.

michellelynn09762290d ago

And it was still bad. GOT looked blah, we've seen Spider-Man 2, DS looked pathetic and LOU2 looked boring.

zaherdab2290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Micheil ... you keep sayin rhat to urself ... these games were stellar ... and they sctually showed us innivation not a repeat of the same formula that is smash bros since the n64 ans they didnt go on about what each button does... nintendo's presentation skills are lacking and the guy doin the voice overs was so dull

Nodoze2290d ago

All of the E3 preso's were very meh. Microsoft did well. Ubisoft did well. The rest .... not so much. Nintendo's prime focus is a port from Wii U with some polish on it. Sony's games were great...but the format sucked big time, and their was next to nothing new.

GameBoyColor2290d ago

Still cant believe yall calling it a port when it's being built from the ground up in ue4 and mechanics are completely different. The last of us 2 is a port with a little more polish then lol.

SuperSonic912290d ago

What ever happened to streamlined consolidation of software development in one unifying platform?

Where the games?
Saw this coming miles away.

paintedgamer19842290d ago (Edited 2290d ago )

Nintendos e3 was garbage. No Bayonetta 3 or Metroid Prime 4 killed it for me.

Wonder what happened to the leaked medieval game that they were working on ... hope that's still on going and gets released sometime after GTA VI

gold_drake4d ago

eh wat?

its been on "break" for 11 years now ha 5 came out literally 11 years ago

isarai4d ago

Seeing as how it's been like 12yrs between releases, i don't think taking even more time is a good decision for the series

TheNamelessOne4d ago

So GTA 7 in around 2045 or 2050 lol

Mr_cheese3d ago

So make one GTA every human generation instead of every other console generation?

Come on...

Well I really hope they make some $$ AND make a HFR2 in the process.

Sciurus_vulgaris3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I’m wonder if Microsoft fully sold the Hi-Fi Rush IP. They kept the publishing rights of the original game. I don’t even understand why the IP was sold. MS could have had another of its menagerie of studios do another Hi-Fi game, despite such a thing being unlikely.

mandf2d ago

It was given for free on gamepass. It didn’t sell well. Look at starfield it only sold 2.5 million because of gamepass

Sciurus_vulgaris2d ago

Starfield did $235 million in revenue on Steam alone from Sept-December 2023. So I’m sure it sold considerably more than 2.5 million copies.

Yes, it did sell well. GP version has a fraction of the reviews that the Deluxe Edition (more expensive purchase version of original) has. If anything, it shows that more people actually bought the Deluxe version than played the GP version, on Xbox at least.

LucasRuinedChildhood3d ago

Hi-Fi Rush on the Switch 2 at launch would probably sell a good amount.
