Nintendo Switch Exclusive Games May Have Loot Boxes Hints Nintendo Boss

In a move that may make long-time Nintendo fans uncomfortable, Fils-Aime voiced his support for loot boxes.

“Loot boxes, broadly speaking, have gotten a bit of a bad rap. The game mechanic of buying something that you’re not sure what’s inside is as old as baseball cards. What we believe at Nintendo is that a gameplay mechanic that offers the consumer something to buy that they’re not sure what’s inside can be interesting as long as that’s not the only way you can get those items. And that’s where some developers have made some mistakes. For us, its one of many mechanics we can use to drive on-going engagement in the game,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg.

I mean if they make sense for the game in question, then I don't mind. But don't start adding loot boxes to games like Mario or Zelda just because..

You're such a flipping fanatic. I bet you are also looking forward to paying Nintendo to play on their rubbish Nintendo network later this year. Loot boxes are bad practices that should be discouraged at all times by gamers

don't even use the word fanatic around me Jaguar. You are such a hypocrite. You come on here and spout so much Sony gospel that I swear you sleep with your PS4 in your bed at night. At least I support multiple hardwares and companies.

I never said paid loot boxes were ok. What if they were free? I merely said that loot boxes may have their place in the proper game, but don't start throwing it into everything just because.

Yeah Jaguar you're not in a position to be calling anyone else a fanatic.

If someone drops $100’s of dollars for, in most games “cosmetic” items, that’s the person who purchased it’s fault. If a game offers this mechanic, for purely COSMETIC reasons, i don’t see the issue. I am truly against the companies abusing this, making us pay for extra content that in prior generations, were just free “updates”, as some still do on PC, or content that gives players an edge in gameplay. It’s a bullsh*t practice. But for some of us who truly enjoy a game, for example smash brothers, i personally had no problem buying content for a game that i loved. I’ve dumped tons of money into Rocket League and that’s MY fault. People need to be smart about it when developers are making it “fair”.

Stop accepting loot boxes. Loot boxes is making company greedy and lazy. Nintendo shouldn't follow the trend at all rather just add cosmetic only that doesn't give people advantages in gameplay.

I should have clarified that if they were things that were earned (not bought), then I would be ok with them. Nobody said that loot boxes have to be paid for.

Blastoise125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

I think Nintendo should stay far away from this, not only are they known for their family friendly games but they're known for being relatively free of modern gaming greed.

They have a good thing going, their games sell like crazy without this stuff. Mario odyssey sold like 10 million or something stupid. But I guess even they are considering if its worth it for the $$$

LOL, if this is true, then I know blind Nintendo fanboys will eat it up. They eat anything Nintendo gives them.

Lol I love how people are pretending to be upset about loot boxes while they act equally as mad at Sony that they can't use all the MTs they bought in fortnite when they play on the switch. If I'm an exec seeing how much people get mad about not being able to play with dumb cosmetics they bought with real money, I'd be jamming them into every possible game.
