Bethesda Is a Bastion of AAA Single-Player FPS Games, Bless Them

Twinfinite writes "Let’s thank our lucky stars that in 2018 there’s a publisher willing to shrug its shoulders at the hoopla and deliver us quality AAA single-player experiences. And more importantly, not lose its nerve after what we understand were less than satisfactory sales numbers for, well… all of its most recent titles."

I'm thankful for the games they are publishing.

...With the exception of the Fallout series. Bethesda has proven to be a capable publisher, but they're not a very good developer (at least when it comes to the Fallout series). I think it's time that they hand this IP off to a more capable developer/publisher to take it in a new direction. The potential they have with this series is being squandered by a horribly inept and antiquated game engine with sub-par production and no willingness to address it because people continue to buy millions of copies of each release - thus the cycle repeats. Fallout 4 was a turd of a game with the bare minimum of RPG elements. Instead, Bethesda was so focused on delivering a base-building simulator to draw in the Minecraft and casual gamer crowd, and in so doing, managed to strip away nearly all that was good about its predecessors - I.E. Fallout 1 & 2, and Fallout: New Vegas.

Oh I agree with the quality of Fallout. I literally had a falling out with the 4th game. Couldn't get past the opening hours. My biggest gripe was with the dialogue options. What once was an immersive experience became meh, and there are just too many other great experiences to enjoy to give my valuable time to a game that doesn't feel worth it.

New Vegas is my fav fallout game but we're not going to act like fallout 3 is in the same class as 4

maelstromb2585d ago

@Movefasta1993 - You are correct. I very much enjoyed Fallout 3 and you are right in that it is not in the same class as Fallout 4. However, it is also not in the same class as the original Fallout titles or Fallout: New Vegas. I did enjoy the post-apocalyptic DC setting, but my point is that Bethesda (as a developer of Fallout titles) is nowhere near as capable as Obsidian or other AAA developers.

It's always good to have a mix of SP games to escape into and MP games for a more social experience and Bethesda does their bit for the SP market for sure. That said, I'd probably prefer Rage 2 to be along the same lines as Borderlands than a strictly solo game.

porkChop2585d ago

Yeah I think Rage 2 will probably feature co-op. It seems like a good fit. With id handling the gunplay and combat though, I wouldn't mind some form of PVP.

I do hope RAGE 2 has Vehicular multiplayer combat like RAGE had . I found it very additive .

I think they are thinking long term. If they keep building on their engines and some of their studios start getting a really good reputation I think it will pay off big time.
