I find my self generally agreeing with this, the caveats being you will never be able to own the games you play and the games you do get to access will be determined solely by the platform holder. An Xbox Game Pass like service seems like a fair trade off though.

Neflix, Hulu and the like have already proven this model to be quite good for both the consumers and the corporations.

I subscribe to EA Access. It's not that expensive and I easily make my money back by playing their Vault games. Waiting for UFC3 to be in there.

Both EA and MS are chasing that NETFLIX money a little too hard. The reason NETFLIX works is because they've invested in new shows, something for everyone.

Invest in new ips tye same way NETFLIX does in new shows and you might have a case. Now it just seems you want the easy way out, whilst keeping revenue up.

I subscribe to EA access and it's been great.

The only issue I have is being subscribed to so many services at the moment.

Subscription services will mature next gen. Sony has PS Now and PS+. MS has Games for Gold and Game pass. I'd rather have a single service so wish these companies would start talking a collaborative service.

Tbh I can see this working for alot of games EA release.

All the sports games and FPS games could benefit from this by not releasing a new game at £60 plus £40 dlc but adding to the game modes abit like they put BF1 and BF4 in the same menu system or added world cup dlc to FIFA and update the squad each season instead of charging £60 for that. Dose not work for all games imo put could work well for the ones I have said above.

How about if I buy FIFA I get updates for it every year? I know, crazy idea after I spent $60 on the game. Plus FIFA is far from worth it to buy every year. It hardly advances from year after year. I buy FIFA every 5 years or so. Battlefield is different always. I'm more than happy to pay for that game.

The biggest problem with your idea is that it completely takes away ownership of the game from people. What you are proposing is GaaS. I rsther pay $60 to own a game and of I decide, I will sell it or lend it to friends. But I'm a collector, I like to own my games. I know, totally crazy idea. Also, who do you think supports developers more? You who want's to play $10 or so per month for a service or me who buys a game for $60? With your idea, developers will make less, that will mean that we will be getting less games and worst games because there won't be money for games like God of War for example. With your idea, all games will turn into services and we won't get sequels just updates for 5 or more years. You are ok with that? I'm not. With your idea, gaming will stagnate. You might be ok with that, I'm not. You are not a gamer. You are a cheap person who does not care about gaming just his own wallet. Find another hobby and leave mine alone!

The last game I bought from EA was Mass Effect: Andromeda. That was after right buying Nioh, Horizon, Breath of the Wild, and Nier: Automata, too, so being burned like that was amplified even more. Add to that subscriptions, loot boxes, ect.? No thank you...

I can't imagine the subscription model would be that appealing when you have 10 major publishers doing it, each console maker with their own, little publisher entering the fray and not being able to get enough subs to support the development of their games, and the proliferation of content across multiple services making it a pain in the ass to keep track of what someone may want to play.

A sub service only makes sense if it's centralized like MS game pass or PSNow....as in content available from different sources.

I'm tired of all these publishers telling us what is the best way for us to spend our money, or how we should want to play our games. They are free to offer anything they want, but it's time they be brought down a rung or two and made to realize that it's the consumers who decide how they will spend their money, or what kind of games we will decide to consume.
