Think I’m just gonna sell my Switch. This is crazy. Maybe I’ll repurchase once Nintendo gets their act together.

Pastemaniak2592d ago

Remember that the current model has been cracked and the new ones might close the gate.

PhoenixUp2592d ago

Wow Nintendo takes one step forward and three steps back.

They still won’t even let consumers back up save data onto external storage

Shiken2592d ago

Niether does Sony or MS. Any external storage you use can only be used on the same PS4 or X1. If it breaks and you tey to load it to a different system, it formates the USB or HDD for that system and wipes it clean. They are all just as bad in that regard, wake up.

I will say this though...ALL games need to be able to be backed up. Some of them not being eligible is BS.

@Shiken

You should educate yourself on this situation before making a reply. The only thing is the external storage needs to be formatted in fat32 and not ntfs. I use a 1.5 TB external Hdd and a 64 gig usb drive with my PS4 and it works fine and i can use those on my computer also.

jaycptza2592d ago

God please read he is talking about game saves and you can save it to a flash drive or HDD also you can easily backup your HDD to an external and re-install it to another device. Y

Nitrowolf22592d ago

We are talking about GAME SAVES

You can do this on ANY storage device on ps4(ps3) and xbox 1 (360)

Shiken2592d ago

@all

I was misinformed. I was under the impression that USB save backup would not be able to be used on a different PS4.

I was wrong and admit to my mistake...sorry for the confusion.

I can't speak about PS4, because I don't own one. I do own an Xbox One, and I cannot back up saves to external media in any way, even though I use an external drive for additional (and faster) game storage. Save data cannot be copied or moved out of the internal drive.

However, all Xbox game saves are automatically backed up to "the cloud" (if I'm online). Nintendo need to do this for their Switch users too, if they're going to continue to pull a Microsoft (by preventing manual save-file backups to external storage devices). As long as they don't fix this unacceptable issue, I will not buy a Switch.

@Shiken Everyone gets confused at times. Good of ya to call out your own mistake. Thumbs up on that.

right.. because Sony only started allowing us to use external hard drives how long ago again? Even the Wii U let you do that. Nobody is perfect. External storage with a portable device is tricky. They could allow the USB port on the dock to be able to read the external HD and then allow users, while docked, to manage their content on their Switch. But that only works for a one case scenario. Are people gonna use a USB-C cable and plug a HD into the bottom of the Switch while they are on the go? Would look a little silly..

I think the statement here is just to cover their butts in case a game or two doesn't allow you to use it. I would like to believe that the vast majority of games will allow you to use cloud saving. Which is a huge step forward for them.

PhoenixUp2592d ago

@ Shiken

You’re talking about the actual games themselves, I’m talking about save date which can be uploaded onto an external device and loaded onto a different console.

I guess your blind hatred causes you to blurt BS to make yourself feel better.

@ Neo

Sony has allowed you to change your internal storage with non-proprietary devices on consoles since 2006. Let’s not pretend they had no solution to increasing storage. And since 2006 you could still put your saves onto an external USB thumbdrive, SD card, or memory stick. The latter two options got dropped with later PS3 models and completely with PS4.

Wii U launched with a paltry 32GB max so they had no choice but to allow for external HDD otherwise you wouldn’t be able to play digital games to fit onto Wii U’s storage.

Let’s not damage control for Nintendo.

FallenAngel19842592d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pokémon were one of those titles

Nintendo is that old uncle that keeps using Windows XP.
