Man, 2018 is turning out to be a really weird year in gaming. You’ve got your Sony exclusives that are tearing it up, Microsoft is ramping up the backwards compatibility on their Xbox One and Nintendo’s unofficial 2018 slogan for the Switch is “Year of the Port.” However, if you’ve got a few minutes to spare and can put down your current-gen console of choice, there’s actually quite a unique thing going on right now with the Nintendo 3DS.

I think he was making fun of a previous RPG of the year award given to Detroit from another site.
It almost made it but didn't quite outrank any of the games that we ended up choosing. Incredible game, though!
It is funny for me that pokemon won a prize and not octopath. Pokemon is a really bad jrpg....

Octopath isn't a casual RPG.
Because it's a generic JRPG that get's rather repetitive and boring really quick. I'm at 15 hours and SLOGGING through it. I know several people who quit around that mark too.
The complete lack of interaction between characters and their chapter settings is really unfortunate.
The combat and world are pretty nice though. For what that's worth.
Exactly. It's the most overrated RPG of the year. Maybe they should have had a category for that.
Odd that Dragon Quest 11 didn’t make the cut. Did the author not play it? It’s quite good.

That is the most anemic list one could possibly conjure. Many of those suck. DQXI and Octopath are well above. Not to mention Torna the Golden Country.
Dragon Quest 11 was easily the best RPG this year, and it's not even on the list.
Not only that, it didn't even have any real competition. Valkyria Chronicles 4 was the closest, but still a distant 2nd.
Amazon has discounted the physical versions of Persona 5 on PS4 as well as the 3DS versions of Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology and The Alliance Alive to below $30.
Put down my Current console of choice? What if I am not a fanboy. Unofficial Nintendo slogan? What if I see through your Nintendo hate? Every console has two years of ports. PS4 and Xbox one did also. At least they have 10 million seller AAA games in a years time. What if my console of choice is PS4? Still want me to put it down? And I dont hate Nintedo for giving me ports. They have plenty non ports. And they have not made enough of the 2ds and 3ds JRPG ports yet. Get me my ported Jrpgs Nintendo. Get me my PS2 ports Sony. Get me my xbox Ports Microsoft.
