IGN: Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze for Switch Review

IGN writes : "Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze's addition of Funky Mode makes it more accessible without reducing the formidable platforming difficulty to a walk in the park. There's still a lot of challenge, even with the extra help Donkey’s Funky uncle affords. But the Switch version manages to take just enough of an edge off a punishing game to let the fun platforming outshine its difficulty."

Great game had the Wii u version will be getting again on switch:)

hulk_bash19872184d ago

I will support these releases to help push Switch sequels to these criminally overlooked Wii U games.

eagle212184d ago

This will probably sell double what it sold on Wii U. Switch software sales have been on another level.

Christopher2184d ago

They weren't overlooked, the wiiu was just poorly sold.

Personally I dislike these ports for the sole purpose that they are full priced or not even free to those who already own the game on hardware Nintendo failed on, not the customers.

The 10th Rider2184d ago

@Christopher,

Saying they should be free is absolutely ridiculous. Having them ported doesn't magically change the fact that someone who owns it already has a copy of the game and a console to play it on. Should PS3 owners of The Last of Us gotten the remastered version for free? Should PSV owners have gotten Tearaway on PS4 for free?

That being said, the price of the Tropical Freeze port is preposterous and there's no way I can support that. Every other port so far has been fairly priced when you compare it to the market value of the Wii U versions and the content they added . . . but DK barely adds anything and it somehow costs MORE than when the game originally launched on Wii U.

Prince_TFK2184d ago (Edited 2184d ago )

@Chris

People are not entitled to anything man. You bought a game knowingly that you can only play it on one particular console. If you want a new version of the game then buy it, Nintendo doesn’t owe you anything.

And by using your logic, doesn’t that mean every games ever remastered or re-released should be free to all existing owner?

You're acting like this is seeing vast improvements over the wiiu version, it isn't.

I think ports should be handled like 360 BC on the Xbox One. It should be the defining way to handle BC going forward, because that's exactly what these ports are, paid BC.

If there's additional content, pay for it.

Arguing for the business is anti consumer. You guys shouldn't be arguing to pay more for the same game but for consumer rights to not be nickel and dimed. Because you argue against it and keep paying full price for the same old games is the only reason it continues to exist.

Don't argue me when I'm not the one causing the issue. Look in the mirror and understand you're the one costing gamers more money. I already gave Nintendo money for hardware they supported for little time and the game. Their failures are not to be funded by me.

@chris
They were overlooked, because of Nintendo's failure with the WiiU. That is my point, these games need to be experienced by a larger audience which is why i dont mind them being re released on the Switch.

Christopher2178d ago (Edited 2178d ago )

***i dont mind them being re released on the Switch***

I have no problem with the release on Switch, I have a problem with not respecting those who supported the game in the first place. The game is going to get new sales, but give your long time supporters some recognition and respect.

Reviews are about on par with the original

TheFirstClassic2184d ago

Well its basically the same game at a higher res and one more character.

DivineAssault 2184d ago (Edited 2184d ago )

This is a really damn good game.. If i didnt have it on wii u, i wouldve bought it for the switch.. Plus $60 is too much when it was only $50 when it launched on wii u.. Nintendo wouldve got my money had they included the prequel as a 2 pack similar to bayonetta.. Oh well.. Maybe if i see a deal, ill grab it just to have it as a handheld title.. None the less this is easily my favorite of all the DKC titles.. Im coughing up the $60 for hyrule warriors since it has all the DLC and the 3ds features like changing characters.. That is a critical feature for those games moving forward.

Yui_Suzumiya2184d ago

Ports from Wii U should only be $40 tops but Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

DigitalRaptor2184d ago

Wii U's best games coming to the Switch is a great thing!

DarkVoyager2184d ago

Not when they’re $60. No way I’d pay that. Should’ve been $40 max.

I'm glad they didn't. I heard he was asking for way too much money to reprise his role as a mascot. Which is ludicrous since everybody knows Rambi is the real star here. Enguarde is just a second stinger at best.

The audacity of this fish! SHAME!!!
