Wow. Talk about getting the really bad design... again. I wish they would release the same cover everywhere (and by the same cover, I mean that Japanese one!).

What's great about the Japanese cover? It's just a collage of human looking characters, half have a circle on their temples. There's some sort of riot or revolution hinted at and presumably the city of Detroit in the background.

The North American version has a character that's much more clearly a robotic android, or whatever the proper term is, with the connection point seems in his (if I'm assuming its gender properly, if not, I fully accept my death penalty) face.. standing in front of presumably the city of Detroit.

Neither are amazing. The North American version makes it clear that the game deals with androids and 'Become Human' in the title gives the customer an idea that there will be intelligent androids with human-like capabilities making human-like choices.. which often leads to some sort of robot revolution or human vs robot scenario or greater robot acceptance or autonomy, etc.

The Japanese cover, if I walk into a store not knowing anything about the game.. it looks like the game is about futuristic nice people who 'become human' (maintain their humanity) by sticking up for homeless people and rebel against some sort of oppressive government. I don't get androids, advanced ai, or anything similar from the Japanese cover, so chill with the fake outrage.. again, neither cover is perfect, but the North American cover seems to tell a more complete and relevant story about what to expect from the game.

@EeJLP - it's personal preference. I agree with what you are saying though. TBH both covers don't really explain anything. I will concede that the NA cover at least indicates androids better.

OB1Biker2594d ago

Both are good but the Western cover is more informative. Anyone picking up the game in a shop can guess what the game is about.

Chevalier2594d ago

Anyone know where I can find out the Japanese voice actors for Detroit? The female lead sounds like Motoko from Ghost in the Shell. Which would be fitting.

This is so good! Still not too late to make it a reversible cover for the NA release...

InactiveUser2593d ago (Edited 2593d ago )

Reversible covers make the inside of the case look like ass compared to games with blank inner cover art, let alone games that include specific inner cover art like Resistance Fall of Man and Resistance 2, for example, that show some more detail about the game.

Elda2594d ago

Doesn't matter all games will play the same.

The_Jackel2594d ago

no no no the covers being different makes one of them far more superior!!!

dumahim2594d ago

Reminds me of the Heavy Rain box art being bad and people creating and sharing a new cover that could be printed off. I think I still have the image file somewhere.

OB1Biker2594d ago

Tbh I was about to pick up HR a few times and the cover put me off at the time.

dumahim2594d ago

Google'd it. It was the first image. I guess it was just the European version updated with the American icons.

The Japanese Detroit cover is basically the same as the North American Heavy Rain cover. Each show a random assortment of characters and little to nothing about the game, yet people here are talking about and agreeing with the former being amazing and the latter being garbage.

The North American Detroit cover is the more simplified version with a single main theme of the game.. an android (in Detroit), but that sucks apparently. Meanwhile, the simplified Euro version of the Heavy Rain cover with a single main theme of the game.. the origami figure (in the rain).. is amazing.

Inconsistent nonsense.

OB1Biker2594d ago

Thanks for info. The US cover was definitely better. The hate is ridiculous though. I think its just about how the product is perceived from the cover when people don't really know what its about. Once you own the game and know what its about the point is to have the original cover for collection IMHO

...this has got to be a joke, the thing looks like it was put together by me when comparing it to something from Boston Dynamics from 20 years ago. They might make good Halloween decorations though as they move more like an animatronic from Spirit Halloween

Is N4G a place to promote a conman now?

Babadook7211d ago (Edited 211d ago )

I disagree. BD is pretty scripted. This is using AI to act. Not the same thing. If you don't like Elon what about Figure 01, 02? Same general concept.

MrDead211d ago

I'm talking about the "robots" ability to do anything, Boston Dynamics have proof of concept and what they build does what they say, the Musk just has an extremely curated video of robots shuffling around like a 90yo. I can see why this presentation tanked Teslas stock price by $60billion.

The dumbass even thought his bus was a good idea, a vehicle that's meant to be mass transit has no ground clearance and they boxed the wheels in making it turn poorly or wasting massive amounts of space on the interior.

Babadook7211d ago

I think it's ahead of Boston dynamics in terms of being a product. Like I said prescripted is not really the same thing as thats not really particularly useful, at least in the human form.

Grilla211d ago

AI? Those bots were controlled by ppl. It’s vaporware

cartoonx1211d ago

AI is also pre-scripted, just more advance. there is a reason you keep getting new version of chat GPT. trained more, better data, algo improved.
It's just a fancier way of pre-scripted. its still limited to what is trained on, how its train, and generative capabilites are limited to how its written.

Detroit: Become Human Has Sold Over 10 Million Copies

Detroit: Become Human has officially sold over 10 million copies, making it the second most popular choice-and-consequence game after The Witcher 3, which sold over 50 million copies.

"making it the second most popular choice-and-consequence game after The Witcher 3"

Stupidest line I have heard in a long time from a gaming article.

Amplitude215d ago

I actually audibly laughed out loud

VenomUK215d ago

I enjoy all genres of video games including action adventures, RPGs, beat ‘em ups, FPS and choice and consequence games.

mkis007215d ago

What a weird way to categorize 2 unrelated games.

VenomUK215d ago (Edited 215d ago )

Exactly! Maybe they got ChatGPT to help them with their homework?

JEECE215d ago

Cool. Great sales for a game of this style.

90sGamingWasBetter215d ago

One of my favourites from last gen.
