OK, no wonder. The more I play it, the more it's clear the game is Ghibli in spirit. It seems that while the Ghibli organization itself has changed drastically since the first game, the people behind the sequel are mostly the same. Did a bit of searching, and quickly found this:

Beautifully done, at least the full-scale characters and areas of the world. (I'm not a fan of the overworld diorama at all.)
