Outlast 2 on Switch compared with PlayStation 4

A very respectable port from developer Red Barrels. Switch runs at 30 frames per second with several other cutbacks, but the core experience is intact. Tom guides you through the details.

Remind me why my Switch is so amazing? Another stripped down port, completely inferior to the PS4 & Xbox One... never mind the fact that the Pro and One X run even better than their base counterparts. “Omg they got this game to actually run on Switch after a ton of concessions! Switch is amazing!” This is why my Switch is dusty. I just don’t understand the hype. I can’t help but feel eventually others will see this too. Just like the Wii. It also sold like hot cakes the first 1.5 yrs.

CocoaBrother2632d ago

Why be so negative towards a gaming system? Let people enjoy their systems and you go enjoy yours.

Now personally, I travel a lot so I don't get much time to play at home. The Switch lets me play when I'm not by a TV. That's a big reason why people, like myself, like the system.

mikeslemonade2632d ago (Edited 2632d ago )

People got low standards. They’re like “I want on switch so I can play it portable”. Those casual gamers gonna always be casual.

The screen sucks, it’s too small, and you can’t see the finer details when it’s small. Especially in a game where your suppose to find loot and figure out puzzles it’s hard to see.

DankSinatra2632d ago (Edited 2632d ago )

@mikeslemonade

"The screen sucks, it’s too small, and you can’t see the finer details when it’s small. Especially in a game where your suppose to find loot and figure out puzzles it’s hard to see."

One of the most hashed out and word to arguments against the switch. It like everyone who plays the switch and makes this argument has hyperopia, I have never had issues seeing anything on the switch even in the games that dip resolution to extremely low levels (Xenoblade 2) and I've got terrible eyesight.

Sgt_Slaughter2632d ago

You ask this, yet you bought one? Sounds like that's a you problem more than the system.

marloc_x2632d ago

"..not to dissimilar to what you get on more powerful systems.."

"..you really have to slow it down to pick this one out."

"..made a lot of these comparisons difficult to pick out.."

"..Nintendo's handheld punching above it's weight"

"It's the size of an Archie comic!"
*oops, that was me😉

Switch down ports of games are better because of its PORTABLE! but dont you dare call switch a handheld...

DwightSchrute012632d ago (Edited 2632d ago )

Well it ain't JUST a handheld so why would anyone call it that. I'm sure everyone knows it's a hybrid by now.

SR3882632d ago

It's a portable home console :p

AgeInTheCage2632d ago (Edited 2632d ago )

Nintendo calls it a hybrid so they can mask their failer in the dedicated home console business. I tell all the nintendo fans if switch were a home console only it would be selling just like wii u did.

michellelynn09762632d ago

It is a hybrid. You can play it as either.

Neonridr2632d ago

@AgeInTheCage - if the Switch was a home console only it would have had more power.. obviously handheld, power, etc wouldn't have come into the equation if it was a boxed tethered to your TV all the time.

People like you are the problem. Games over tech anyday.

2pacalypsenow2632d ago

Its portable, that's about it.

Shiken2632d ago

And all it needs to be

2pacalypsenow2631d ago

Exactly, it's a Nintendo console.

Stick a Mario and zelda game and call it a day.

LgbtWarrior2632d ago

You completely miss the point of switch. It’s a hybrid console. Portability. You can’t take your PS4 in your hand. Just because it doesn’t appeal to you doesn’t mean it’s stupid. Don’t be ignorant.

Neonridr2632d ago

did you even read the article? They even said that the dev went on to prioritize what mattered most. Resolution is 93% of the companions, while stripping away things that may not matter in dark environments or during fast motion.

I mean the article is actually positive about the Switch version, not negative.

UKRsoldja2632d ago

Framerate absolutely matters... And it's been stripped.

Neonridr2631d ago

@UKRsoldja - it's 30fps. Plenty of games this gen are 30fps on PS4/XB1. Don't pretend like 60fps was what made these games great.

UKRsoldja2631d ago

Yes, plenty of games are 30fps, but that's not ideal. You said things that were stripped away didn't really matter. I disagreed.

Neonridr2631d ago

@UKRsoldja - Horizon was only 30fps. Of course the game looked gorgeous. But if you are saying framerate matters, then it should matter for that game too.

you might disagree, but I will take the word of the article over you. Are you telling me that your analysis trumps a site that does these sorts of things daily? Then that's your opinion. And everyone has the right to disagree with your opinion.

Old McGroin2632d ago

You don't have a Switch you lying troll.

Shiken2632d ago

Because to many, playing a console game portably is worth more than playing a prettier version of the same game. My ability to play games has doubled with the Switch being able to play on my TV and on the go as opposed to being tied only to my tv.

conanlifts2632d ago

Dusty? I use my switch for games like mario, xenoblade (100+ hour game) etc. I also picked up kirby which is okay as a multiplayer.

Benjaminkno2631d ago (Edited 2631d ago )

Clearly you feel better bitching about a console than enjoying your own.

It’s funny with all the “gamers” that claim to buy Nintendo products so they can claim they have dust on them.

Get a life

Nice glad it runs well, will be buying the first one soon. Can't wait to try out horror portable!!

inxine2632d ago

can we not do them comparison videos anymore? lets just enjoy the game on the switch without ppl reminding us that ps4 or xbox looks oh so much better, itsabout experience, not resolutions or framerates.

I do think they can be useful because if an individual owns both consoles they can get a look and better decide which version to buy.

Higher Tier PlayStation Plus Members Can Claim These 10 Spooky Games For Free

If you don’t plan on trick-or-treating or going to a Halloween-themed party, the next best thing is to relax with a spooky game, and PlayStation Plus members can get some cool games for free. If you’re a PS+ subscriber, there are a bunch of games perfect for Halloween that you can get completely for free.

Note: Some games require higher PS+ tier levels to enjoy free.

TriniOutsider227d ago

Can we stop with the word "Free" when it comes to these subscription services, please? These games aren't free if people are paying for the service.

Juancho51227d ago

Calm down, we all know what it means. You’re not paying for the individual game, it’s included. Stop acting outraged over nothing.

TriniOutsider227d ago

Your response is exactly what's wrong with gaming today.

I've always against subscription based gaming services.

1nsomniac226d ago

He doesn't need to calm down. He's stating what is factual and what should be common sense, however it's clear some people still don't understand this.

It is not free. You do not receive them if you're not paying the subscription to receive them. No ones getting angry other than yourself. He's just stating the simple common sense that no one is receiving a free game they are receiving a game "included" in their subscription plan - That they pay for!

False and manipulative writing/advertisement is wrong and counts on the less educated letting it go unchallenged.

Elda226d ago

Exactly. If anyone wants to play any of these games through PS+ one has to pay a monthly subscription fee which means it's not free.

northpaws226d ago

@TriniOutsider

We all know what it means, no one is confused, chill.

TheNamelessOne227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

All great games, honestly. Though, I did feel The Devil In Me was the worst game that Supermassive has put out.

LoveSpuds226d ago

I went out and bought Dredge, one of my favourite games i have played this year.

If you haven't played it, you really should give it a chance.

Nacho_Z226d ago

Dredge is great, really enjoyed it. One of my favourites too and something original as well.

derek226d ago

Alan Wake 2 is available in the subscription?

1nsomniac226d ago

No. It's just a really poorly written article. Alan Wake 2 is part of the subscriptions "Trial" section - So it's simply a demo, that's all.

Simple "bait and switch" article trying to get hits using manipulative writing.

derek226d ago

Oh, ok. I looked on the app and saw the trial available thought I was missing something.

The 10 Best Horror Games That Are Not Resident Evil

From Xfire: "The name Resident Evil is synonymous with horror games at this point. The series is basically what gave birth to the entire horror genre. However, just because Resident Evil games are some of the best horror games around, doesn't mean that only the games within the franchise are noteworthy horror games."

Is the article picture from Until Dawn? I do not remember that in until Dawn at all. Truly Haunting.

Kakashi Hatake1467d ago

It's actually Man of Medan. I believe it has the same developers as Until Dawn.
