For now there is no version of Shenmue 3 planned for Switch

In recent times many video games are adding to the success of a video game that is sweeping sales, and is that analysts believe that Nintendo Switch would reach 200 million units sold worldwide. The last one that could be added to your catalog? A Shenmue III to which fans request a version for Nintendo Switch.

“analysts believe that Nintendo Switch would reach 200 million units sold worldwide”

Wait hold up. Does anybody really believe that could happen

Neonridr2651d ago

I don't think we will ever see a piece of hardware sell that many units. The PS2 and DS were sort of freaks of their times.

The 10th Rider2650d ago (Edited 2650d ago )

There were some analysts that mentioned that.

While *I* do not think that it will happen and I would be absolutely amazed if it did, I don't think it's quite as crazy impossible as people are making it out to be. Highly improbable? Definitely.

The analysts who predicted that are probably counting on the Switch continuing to beat out previous Nintendo consoles in Europe, which has previously been Nintendo's weakest market, the Switch monopolizing the Japanese market, a seven year lifespan, and a huge launch in China.

Personally I think the first two are likely . . . but a seven year lifespan and successful Chinese launch are questionable and without China there's no way any console will hit 200 million.

If any console maker stands a chance in China under the current censorship laws, it'd be Nintendo. The PS4 launched there but it only has like 50 titles available because the censorship is so strict. Nintendo has the benefit that the Switch is a mobile device, which should be more appealing to the Chinese market, and most first-party Nintendo games could likely slip by censors with minimal changes.

Even so, I think the odds of a successful launch in China are slim and without that it probably won't get far past 100 million.

EDIT: To make absolutely clear, I DO NOT think the Switch will get anywhere close to 200 million, I'm just trying to lay out some likely reasons as to why an analyst predicted that.

Segata2650d ago

No chance even PS4 makes it let alone Switch and at this pace PS4 and Switch will no doubt hit 100 mill but not 200 by any stretch. As someone said DS and PS4 were freak things that will likely never happen again.

Ummm... it's pretty obvious.

There was never any indication that it was coming and all this is, is Yu Suzuki confirming the obvious. If it does though, that would be fantastic, but I couldn't imagine this coming to a platform without its prequels so I hope they remaster the first 2 for Switch as well. Playing Shenmue on the go... whew!

Avengerz432650d ago

Extremely disappointing I would love to have this on my switch. I'd love to have the first 2 remastered for switch too.

Scatpants2650d ago

That's ok no one is going to buy it anyway.

SurgicalMenace2650d ago

Right. Seeing that people have been waiting for this sequel for ages, because you said it it just has to be true. What if it were on the Switch, would your sentiments change? If so, that is very telling. It's as though, the Nintendo community has developed a very entitled nature to them. Why would it come to the Switch, when none of his other games have every graced a Nintendo console. Why would he change his mind now?

SegaGamer2649d ago

Well, technically it's already been bought by a lot of people. A lot of people donated more than enough to get a copy of the game.

TheOttomatic912650d ago

I guess that means it will be a graphical showcase, or at least I hope so.

Sm00thNinja2650d ago

I don't know how you came to that conclusion

Segata2650d ago

It's using UE4. UE4 is native to Switch and easy to port but that's not why this isn't coming to Switch.

Pretty much just clickbait opinion. IMO, Switch 2 is everything I loved about Switch, but much more refined and perfected. As someone with a huge library of physical Switch 1 games, I’m stoked with the enhanced performance on my existing games, and very excited for the future once devs start optimizing engines for the platform. Game Chat is excellent, the controllers are excellent. Anyways, I love it so far.

OtterX1h ago(Edited 51m ago)

Yea, I think it's a great handheld especially. I'm playing it daily and going back to my huuuuge library of games I already had, but with better performance.

My biggest issue with it though is that they got lazy and used an almost carbon copy of Switch 1's UI. I was hoping for something more evolved and new that screams "new system", but a lot of the times I end up feeling like I'm on the Switch 1, just faster. It honestly feels more like a Switch Pro than a Switch 2.

I do still love it though, regardless.

Blah Blah Blah
Switch 2 is basically a more powerful Switch and that's what everyone had been asking for. They know what they're getting into.
Had mine for a couple of days and I'm having a blast with both Switch 2 and 1 games.

Profchaos20h ago

Switch 2 is what I wanted a more powerful switch im happy with it.

Do I wish it was oled sure does it bother me not much

strayanalog19h ago

Wake up and smell the plastic. The sky isn't falling here, your expectations just weren't met. You expected Nintendo to not play it safe with their (best-selling) console, as they have since after the Gamecube.
Thankfully, in gaming, not everything has to be "technically accomplished" or completely different to prove its existence to bring inspiration to the table. Consoles are remembered by their software and the Switch 2 just got here.

GhostScholar18h ago

The idea that the focus on third party is bad is really dumb. They only have really 3 launch titles and one of the issues with the switch was its inability to run a lot of the biggest games. They have addressed both of those issues by highlighting third party support.

It’s really old now. All great MMOs decline.

PRIMORDUS1d 9h ago

Also who wants to keep paying a monthly fee every month, there are other options like Guild Wars 2 😁with no monthly fee and while not that many people overall compared to FF XIV, it did increase to about 21 mil now.

Sephiroushin22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

I prefer to pay since i do not like guild wars and it keep kids away, but FF14 decreased on quality since they started to make it "more accessible", tried throne and liberty and while it was okay it has so many issues, same for dune awakening... Its time to start making a new FF MMO

TheColbertinator1d 14h ago

Time for the Final Fantasy 17 MMO

kaewcha7341d 9h ago

Looks like Square Enix is self-aware but still stuck in place, they see the player drop and apologize for the bugs, but nothing really changes. Shame, FFXIV used to be the gold standard

Servbot411d 8h ago

My entire free company has stopped playing. The writing has consistently gotten worse and the content is sparse and lacking; unless you are a hardcore player there's very little for you to do. They are over-catering to the people who will grind three+ times a week on a single fight for multiple months when the playerbase by large doesn't want that sort of content. Square needs to dedicate more resources to the game instead of wasting them on mobile and other live service slop.

The biggest factor for me is the way they butchered job design over the years , the casualization and over simplification really hurt a good chunk of enjoyment I used to have . Jobs lost any form of complexity and just became " press glowing button" DDR style for fighting where the gameplay loop is a about the 2 minute burst window . They removed most DoTS, timer mechanics , cast times, pets, RNG ect and all around homogenized everything . When you try and can cater to everyone ... you cater to no one .
