Could Nintendo & Xbox Team Up for Something Big?

"It’s pretty apparent that we are getting a different Nintendo this generation. Between allowing cross-network play and promoting rival company’s characters in Minecraft on Switch, it’s definitely something applaud and speculate about. Could these friendly encounters between Xbox and Nintendo lead to something great in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title for Nintendo Switch?" -- Nintendo Enthusiast

Microsoft tried to buy Nintendo in 1999 for $25 billion and Nintendo declined the offer.

A partnership outside of cross play ain’t happening between the two. Even having Banjo-Kazooie in SSB5 is extremely unlikely

Blue Dragon and VP were on the DS

Exactly.

It would certainly help Microsoft and be in their best interest to work with Nintendo.

Zeref243d ago

You based that on what exactly? You think there is bad blood because they offered them money in the past? Lol

We know Phil wants it to happen, we don't really know Nintendos stance on this yet but they have worked together in the past on the DS, Ms released several games there and a Halo game was also coming to the DS but was canceled i think.

And I'm sure Microsoft wants to put their Xbox Streaming service on the Switch. We know they are working together on Crossplay as well.

Now that they are in contact again like in the DS days I think it's more likely that we might see an Xbox character in smash than not.

rainslacker243d ago

I wouldn't assume just because MS made a bid in the past, that Nintendo somehow is unwilling to work with them. That isn't how business works.

If anything, Nintendo could greatly advance their online infrastructure and accelerate their online ambitions by partnering with MS in some way. Maybe not to the point of offering XBL on the system, but through deals which can help get MS to do some of the leg work to bring their online network running better....something MS would want through cross-play so it all runs well.

Yes Banjo & Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. on Switch

ILostMyMind244d ago

Of course it could, as well as with any other company. It's all a matter of interest. Strategically, a Nintendo partnership would be better with Sony, they have the same target audience.

brewin244d ago

MS and Nintendo would solve each others problems. MS has scant 1st party big titles and Nintendo has weaker hardware and no real online system to match the other consoles. It would be win-win. I like to imagine how much better BotW would be on xbox one x, but I just enjoy having all the systems as it is. Nintendo is stubborn and it cost them the top spot as the worlds best gaming company. But if they werent stubborn the world would never have known the PlayStation brand, so its all good.

TheCommentator243d ago

If they weren't stubborn, Sony would have owned any Nintendo IP published on the Nintendo Play Station. For Sony, control has always been their number one priority though (which is why they have PS Now and remakes instead of BC, for example, as they now control the use of any games you still own from past PS consoles).

rainslacker243d ago (Edited 243d ago )

I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't care about the power to make their games look better. If they did, they wouldn't have released their last 3 systems the way they have.

If Nintendo started putting their games on another system, then they'd lose a lot of hardware sales, and Nintendo actually makes money on their hardware.

However, MS could maybe see Nintendo as a good outlet to the portable market. I'm not sure how practical it would be since they make their games so tightly connected to DirectX that it'd take some work to port....but MS may consider making other games for that market.

Low power HIGH PERFORMANCE is what Switch is basically modern hardware instead of old and powerful with medium performance ie ps4/xbox 1...yes if they had the same perfomance ratio as Switch they would be producing graphics way way beyond Switch and making Switch look terrible and that is not the case.

Hybrid79243d ago (Edited 243d ago )

Nintendo Switch is less powerful but just as capable performance wise END OF...switch modern low power high performance,Xbox 1 medium power medium performance,Mantis Burn,Yooka Laylee,Rocket League all look better on Switch,Lego City is 1080p native with ps4 level graphics, xbox 1 has 900p not native,Doom proves nothing the devs said they targeted 30fps because of dev time ect basically with the same budget it would of achieved 900p/60fps easy...plus this is Switch's 1st year so we have only seen prob half of what Switch can do performance wise,it's why you see devs improving resolutions and frame rates with updates ect if switch had reached it's max performance wise then these games would not of been patched.
