Ubisoft experimenting with Blockchain tech for projects like The Division 2

That's actually quite clever use of it. Unique collectibles on the blockchain that csnt be duplicated. Digital Picasso's..but who other than the dev would check the ledgers ? Unless this really takes off!

Can undoubtedly imagine this being an awesome feature if implemented in a useful, meaningful way rather than just as an afterthought gimmick. Haven't paid much attention to this series yet. This could change that.

They've made a lot of very well received games and franchises since the 80s. Rayman, Beyond Good And Evil, Rainbow Six, Prince of Persia. Those credits don't just disappear.

tell us about the game publisher you started.

I mean you don't need to personally like the publisher but at least give the publisher the respect they deserve. This publisher has been able to survive in properly adapt to the market longer than most in the industry we've seen so many developers leave that were Pioneers in the industry yet Ubisoft has been able to remain relevant. I do not believe it is a stretch to call them legendary.

They are not without faults and have had some rough patches but they are definitely legendary for early Assasins Creed, Beyond Good and Evil , Rayman and others mentioned

It doesn't power crypto currency, it protects it from being stolen.

None of this makes sense as this isn't something people worry about right now. I've never thought I was going to have a game on my console crash or have the game server go down and then restart it to come back to items suddenly deleted from my characters. The only time this would happen now is if a database rollback occurred due to rampant cheating and was needed to stabilize the in game economy.

People in WOW aren't losing items in game to hackers but to people who gain access to their account via social hacking methods. So those 'hackers' would still obtain the necessary access to sell or trade your items legitimately just as they would now and a blockchain wouldn't prevent it from being sold or transferred as the account access is all you would need to identify ownership of the item. Additionally, server crashes and the like don't cause item loses as that data is stored in a database with multiple backups and not on the server. There isn't some major issue with loss of data in this method, no more so than with blockchains. The whole point of blockchains is distributed security layers.

Furthermore, you will never own an asset obtained in a game, it will always be owned and controlled by the developer. They can and will change it as they see fit.

All blockchain is right now is an alternative for security, it's not going to suddenly give you asset control or ownership and it's not going to implement features that couldn't be implemented already. If an item could be used from one game to smother, it can happen now. Every item you obtain is tracked by the developers and they could easily flag an item on your account to be available in another now just by detecting the association of the item to the account across both games.

People are blowing blockchains way out of proportion here and associating capabilities with it that already exist but aren't used because you don't own in game assets and they don't want you to use a weapon across games because they design content by game. If they give you access to a weapon, it will be by their design and is already within their control. Oh, and if possible, they will charge you for it.
