Let's face it when it comes to big blockbuster movies being released on video game consoles or PC do you really go out of your way to play or purchase them? Most of these licensed games turn out to be horrible because of little time the developer has to work on these games. Usually games are releasing either slightly before or after the movie release and frankly they just plain suck ass!
There are tons of great games that have been overlooked in the mass of more popular titles. And I don’t just mean underrated games, either. We’re talking about grossly underrated and underappreciated titles in otherwise well-regarded franchises.
FINALLY someone who acknowledges the greatness of Gremlins 2 NES!! One of my favorite movie tie-in games of all times. I have fond memories of both the game and the movie from when I was a kid. I was playing it again just a couple of months ago, and it still holds up very, very well!
I rarely see people mention Gremlins 2 when discussing great NES games and I love you for that!
*edit - Sunsoft really was a fantastic studio. Another favorite, underrated late NES game from them was Batman Return of the Joker. It was so much better than the SNES version too. Something about it died in the effort towards upgrading the graphics and music. The NES version felt darker, moodier.
Kabuki Quantum Fighters was a Nick Arcade classic. Never played it but the name has stuck with me to this day because of that show.
With Sunsoft you knew you were getting good graphics and music,
Personal honorable mentions to Faxanadu and Crystalis.
I dont know if its been underrated, but kung fu master was such a awesome game on the nes. Even if it couldnt compare with the arcade version in graphics, the gameplay was so amasing. Awesome sound effects too. Played it for countless hours....
It looks like a new Ghostbusters game is on the way, and Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the franchise, is part of it.
I hope it’s like the one that felt more like Ghostbusters 3 and not like the twin stick shooter one.
Id love a sequel to the last full console game, that isometric one not so much. I would like to see some bigger funding behind this, using UE5.
Yes. I’m kinda glad that the new writers can’t come up with anything original. It paves the way to my favs
Yes yes! More like the game made during PS3 xbox360 era where you play as the new recruit getting to try out Egon's new experimental weapons and go along with the original cast for the adventure. And make it fully co operative through the story please. Would be so much fun playing together, actually teaming up with tactics or roles in catching ghosts. Each character could have different abilities.
Illfonic, the studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator: Hunting Grounds & more, are working on a new Ghostbusters game!
Can it not be an asymmetric multiplayer game? Like I’m all for a co-op experience but these guys seem to focus on making stuff like Evolve except they somehow acquire these awesome movie IPs.
Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies, I was hyped until I saw the developer. The 4 vs1 model isn’t my jam.
"The latest mainstream Ghostbusters video game was Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which was originally released back in 2009, and developed by Terminal Reality. It was re-released for the PS4, Xbox One in October 2019."
Funny how you forgot to mention is was also ported to the Switch I own the Switch copy. Multiplayer I am not a big multiplayer person campaign co-op I would be down busting ghosts with a friend. I am curious to see how they will pull it off since the passing of Harold Ramis. Will they use the kids from the movie trailer, will they use a future cast like the Extreme Ghostbusters. Will they use the Ghostbusters from the cartoon you throw in the 4 women Ghostbusters and I will pass on the game that was the shittiest Ghostbusters movie ever and a waste of cash.
i am not too hyped with the asymmetric multiplayer part. i hope they just do something like a singleplayer game with co-op on the side.
Oh, Jaws - a game that can literally be beaten in 15 minutes or less.
Atari's ET has got to be in here somewhere....
Jaws was fun, it could be beaten insanely fast, but I rather enjoying trying to speed run it when I was a kid.
Screw you that NES Jaws game was awesome.
Friday the 13th doesn't belong on this list and E.T. should be # 1
