Chrono Trigger is now on Steam, but fans aren’t happy

SlashGear: "The Super Nintendo gave us a lot of truly amazing games. Super Mario World, Final Fantasy VI, and Super Metroid all immediately come to mind, but there are quite a few players who rank Chrono Trigger above all of them. I happen to be one of those players, so imagine my surprise and elation to see that Chrono Trigger is now available on Steam.

Unfortunately, it looks like fans aren’t happy with this port."

Keep this particular port away from consoles Square Enix

franwex2663d ago

Figures. That damn mobile port. That’s the port we got for ff9 on the PC and PS4 too. I guess it’s easier to port that rather than the snes, or PlayStation for a quick cash grab.

Nerdmaster2663d ago

Unfortunately, instead of they admitting that this is a terrible port, they will simply see the sales and say that gamers don't want Chrono Trigger and that that's why they won't ever make a sequel.

TFJWM2663d ago

An amazing game as well...

Nerdmaster2663d ago

Oh, god... "Won't ever make another game in the series". It is more obvious now?

muvo2663d ago

I'm making $86 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbor told me she was averaging $95 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm my own boss. This is what I do>> http://www.fl-y.com/3r8h

Sgt_Slaughter2663d ago

I don't get it, I really don't.

These companies can literally print money with some of their old beloved franchises by rereleasing them but fixing the quirks and balancing them, all in HD or crystal clear retro style... and this is what we get instead.

quent2663d ago

They're already printing money, hence the lack of effort with they're ports

xtheblackparade2662d ago

Yeah that's true, but they do hurt their reputation with doing so. I don't think trends like these can continue much longer without it hurting their sales because their name is just down the drain.

chris2352662d ago

you sound as if employees are working for free and they are growing on tress.

Sgt_Slaughter2662d ago

That has nothing to do with what I said, you came to that conclusion on your own.

What I'm saying is, actually put effort into the ports being made, instead of what this one is. You would need a very small amount of developers at a company to do it, considering people make updated fan ports/remakes all the time by themselves.

XxINFERNUSxX2663d ago

Do the port right (which you didn't) or don't do it at all. I'm more than positive that the fans can do a much better job remaking this than Square Enix did.

Snookies122663d ago

Why do you think they shut down any fan attempts at doing a remake? They can't, or rather won't put the effort into doing it. And it would make them look bad if fans created something better with their IP.

XxINFERNUSxX2663d ago (Edited 2663d ago )

The fan attempts should go under the radar. Once the game is 100% done, upload it to a torrent site then announce your work, but not on the web as we know it, they need to use the dark web aka Tor browser, to host your gaming site and or forum, in this way all of us gamers will win and no game company would bother to even find them on the dark web. What's funny is I rather give $$ to fans to help them even though the game would be free, then actually paying for a full fledge game from some big name companies.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

djl348535d ago

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9236d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil35d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

I want a full on 3d remake but I suppose HD2D is fine.

Snookies1243d ago

So many people want HD2D, but I agree 100%. Chrono Trigger is in my top 3 of all-time. I want to see what this could be like re-imagined in full 3D. The sprites look good enough in the original, in my opinion. What would be amazing, is if they just went for both haha. Give us the HD2D to tide us over while they work on the full remake.

darthv7243d ago

I'd imagine it would be something like... chrono cross

goken42d ago

I am hoping a modern AAA return…

Chard42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

I'm still skeptical of HD-2D, and still want them to fix remaining foibles in the current Steam version. At any rate I've been seeing online that this rumour has been debunked

Knightofelemia42d ago

I would jump for a remake of Chrono Trigger then hopefully a remake of Chrono Cross. I wish Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy also got a remake or a remaster.

jznrpg41d ago

Yes to Xenogears and Xenosaga!

jznrpg42d ago

I am surprised it hasn’t been done already. It’s widely considered as one of the best RPGs all time. I’ll take it for sure. I want a Vagrant Story remake as well
