PS4 vs Xbox One vs Switch Global Lifetime Sales – January 2018

During the month of January 2018, the PS4 outsold the Switch by 373,585 units for the month and the Xbox One by 1.14 million units. The Switch outsold the Xbox One by 764,399 units.

When you compare monthly sales to a year ago, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are up. The PlayStation 4 is up 451,713 units and the Xbox One is up 173,277 units.

Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 managed to achieve 48 percent. The Nintendo Switch accounted for 37 percent of the consoles sold, and the Xbox One 15 percent.

January was also a 5 week month, which hasn't happened in several years. That helped push sales up year on year so much.

Seems like the Xbox one x hasnt done a lot for Xbox one sales overall because its a 4k console like some people said. I remember fanboys saying that majority of people interested in buying a new console or gaming system would rather the true 4k console xbox one x because its a lot more powerful than the ps4, switch and supposedly a lot of pc. Third party devs are making deals right now for ps5 and xbox two but can't imagine any sane dev team would make deals for the Xbox two over the ps5 when they look at the success of the ps4 and the failure of the Xbox one .

How is Sony 'losing grip' with their incredible sales? They broke their own record last year and have increased sales year over year. Xbox is the only system losing grip here. Losing every month of the year to Playstation and Switch worldwide. The Switch will over take the Xbox in about a year and a half at the rate its selling.

Given the recent launch of Xbone X, I think an increase year over year isn’t that surprising tbh. The PS4 selling almost half million more units than last year is rather surprisingly impressive. Switch sales are also great, but it is less than one year old, so there’s that.

Yeah. And the ps4 and Switch are gonna sell another Million in Feb. I want the X-Box to do better, but they can't seem to get any momentum. Switch still sold a million without any major release. Now that is impressive. MHW helped the ps4, but it would have done great even without MHW. Sony and Nintendo just have gamers hearts right now.

Congratulations to Sony! And 2018 is going to be a great year, again. Of course, congratulations to Nintendo for the Switch, even if i didn't like it i admit it is a very nice console for all the family, for the great exclusives too. And the sales are strong. Congratulations for those 100k+ more than last year to Microsoft too. But like i imagined the XboneX didn't help so much (and the base version, so cheap that they give it away almost for free, doesn't help neither).

Of course the PS4 is doing extremely well, it has the largest library, some unbelievable games, and at great price. 3. The Xbox One is not technically failing. It probably go on to be Microsoft’s highest selling console. Which the 360 (and the PS3 for that matter) weren’t failures at those sales rates. Is it last in the juvenile “console wars” yep. But from a business (adult) perspective it’s far from a failure.

As far as the Xbox becoming the best selling console, never. It is selling less then the 360 with the same window of time. So, 2008 vs 2018. Showing less sales in a larger market is considered a failure in business.
Now, Microsoft is just fighting for a core to carry over to next gen, or to create a core fan base that will move to pc.

The npd trend.
Microsoft’s own silence on this exact product but will brag with anything else per usual will tell you as well. They will not release said numbers due to consumer perception.
Also, their xbl subscriptions has dropped from 66 million in 2012 vs their latest numbers released in 2017 of 55 million.
That all is clear signs of decline vs last gen trends

Unless X1, X1s, X1X makes a miraculous turn around it will not sell more than the 86 mil that 360.

For that to happen it would be to be right where the PS4 is in the 70 mil range. If it tops out around 50 mil that will be a nice turn around for the system.

Incorrect, the PS4 is on a pace to outsell the PS2. I believe the last time I saw the comparison article (non vgchartz) the PS4 was nearly double the PS3 at the same point in time after launch.
Looking at the last comparison for the Xbox one to the 360 they both basically equal. I have not read nor heard anything to saying it was selling less than the 360. I do want to correct myself and say that it won’t total out more than the 360 as I do not see them supporting the Xbox one as long as they did/have the 360, forgot the 360 launched in 2005. But for Microsoft it seems to be selling fine for them while making a decent a profit for their entertainment division.

That PS4 man, as someone who owns a Switch and Xbox One X, it's impressive how the PS4 has managed to keep selling well. Very happy that Nintendo has found success with the Switch. It may not be as powerful as the other two consoles, but I love the ability to play games where I want :) As for Xbox One sales, at least they are up? lol
