Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 on PSN Sale Despite its Servers Being Shut Down

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is currently on sale on the PlayStation Network. There's just one problem: it doesn't really work. If you were thinking about buying the most recent game adorned with the Birdman's name, then it might be time to bail out and think again.

You can play this offline

Yeah this, we use it to test systems and controllers before we buy them where i work.

Except it can be played. So....

Chaos_Order2616d ago

The actual game data contains ONLY the tutorial. That's it. Nothing else. This is true with even the disc version. In order to play the actual game, you need to connect to the servers and download the day one patch, which is no longer available.

travestyj2616d ago

That is not true. The patches are hosted by PSN not Activision servers so the patch is still available. Not sure why everyone is making things up about this game. Yeah it's bad but still playable.

Profchaos2616d ago

I would of been much happier with a straight up port of thps 1 to 4 than this garbage. The level design killed it IMO all the levels look like they were created via the old games create a park mode they are all just so bad

PurpHerbison2616d ago

Oh man, a THPS1-4 remaster collection with online play included? Day one.

Italiano12345672616d ago

how could they ruin such a beloved franchise I remember leaving work early without telling them when Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 came out so I could go up to the store and buy it with my friend and we literally played it nonstop those were the days

Majin-vegeta2616d ago

One word "Activision" anything they touch goes to shite.

solderman2616d ago

Yet people will still fly the flag for digital distribution.

STK0262616d ago

To be fair, in this particular case, it's all Activision's fault. The game disc also only contained the tutorial and the full game had to be downloaded. Activison had to rush the release of the game before losing the rights and to do so, they made and shipped the discs to retailers while rushing to get the full game completed by the time of the release a few weeks later. The result was a huge day one patch (that was actually the full game) and an awful game with little to no post-launch support.

Skankinruby2616d ago

Damn right I do, digital distribution is excellent and most definitely the future but they just haven't worked out the kinks. Once we can play digital games offline physical discs will be bargain bin next to dvds.

toxic-inferno2616d ago

If physical discs all end up in the bargain bin, people will buy them instead of downloads.

Digital media is great, but from a market position, I doubt it will ever render physical media. There is little difference in quality and capability between the two forms, so it's not as though physical media will ever become totally obsolete as a format.

There will ALWAYS be people who prefer to purchase physical formats.

Surprised TLOU2 isn't up there!

TheProfessional1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Last guardian was simplistic, overhyped trash. And I liked Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The level design was bad and the controls weren't even responsive, it was terrible. Took them sooo long to release it too which is why that guy hasn't made another game since.
