Metal Gear Solid Remaster: Now Is the Time

Konami parted ways with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima back in 2015. Their first Metal Gear game since his departure – Metal Gear Survive – launches this year (2018). This is the time to easily profit off the franchise with minimal effort. Perfect for Konami!

The story is too old to be commented.

“A remaster/remake of MGS seems like a great fit.”

Those terms aren’t interchangeable and you need to address what exactly you mean because one method clearly requires more effort and resources than the other.

Is it a remaster that’s you wish for like FFVII, FFIX, & Parappa the Rapper currently on PS4?

Or if it a remake that you’d like as with the case with Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ratchet & Clank ‘16, & Shadow of the Colossus on PS4?

Personally I would want ot like the new PS4 Shadow of the Colossus. Don't change anything other than the graphics. (For the most part)

I interchanged remaster/remake precisely because of Shadow of the Colossus and Crash N-Sane.

They are remakes (new assets and more) but have the philosophy of a remaster. SOTC is the best example of placing new assets over top the existing code. This style blends the remaster/remake hence my wording.

A simple remaster would be quite simple using the MGS Integral PC version released in Japan, it's already 720.

A remake like whatever the hell FF VII Remake will be could be interesting but like you say, requires way more resources (especially creative ones) that I'm sure Konami is less interested in.

I've recently gone back to MGS and everything holds up extremely well except for the blurry as hell textures. There's a fan .exe of MGS Integral available for those that want an easy way to play at 720 (it might even force scale to 1080)

A remaster doesn’t use new assets. A remake does.

Remakes aren’t always as drastically different as FFVII remake,

It could be just like Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Persona 4: Golden, Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, Conker: Live & Reloaded etc. Those are all remakes and not remasters.

Don't change any of the soundtrack.

I rather forget that was ever a thing.

Why? It was so good. Don't be like one of those weirdos who say "I hate Twin Snakes cuz the cutscenes"...

Nope I just thought it was lazy. Voice acting was not as good on some characters and the change to Grey Fox I did not like at all. Lacking any sort of atmosphere and yes some of the cut scenes where a little to over the top. I remember almost crying when Sniper Wolf died in the original. The scene with Otacon crying almost made me cry. In the remaster there was no emotion to it. I just remember being like Otacon stop being a ***** and move on she's dead. I think they also changed the music to that scene and some others as well.

Some of the gameplay changes I did not like. Like if caught in MGS1 alert mode is instant. In the remake they run away to call for backup like MGS2. Making it easier and you didn't have to be careful as you could simply kill them before they call for backup.

And you'd expect Konami to do better now? Twin snakes is the best you're gonna get if you want an "update"

kevnb335d ago

dont call it a remaster please

Twin Snakes remaster* TS was the much better version. Sadly, I think Nintendo still owns the exclusive rights to it, so if they did it it would only be on the Switch.
