Amiibo-Esque PlayStation 'Totaku' Figures Seem Like A Missed Opportunity For PlayStation 4

Not really. I wouldn't want to see anything like Amiibos on the PS4, I would hate to see Sony do physical forms of DLC where if you buy a Kratos figure from the first God of War game you'd unlock his classic skin for God of War 2018 or if you use a Sack Boy one for Dreams you'll get an very small but exclusive Little Big Planet level.

why not? there's more to it than just that though. Look at the Smash Bros. Amiibos. They are more than just DLC or a costume.

I'd rather they do something than them just be figurines. We already get enough statues from collectors editions.

Why not? Because I don’t like DLC to start with, not physical forms of it especially cosmetic stuff which should be able to be gained from within the game. Even worse if it was an exclusive mode or room not found in the standard game

If you buy a game then every form of content which is shown off and ready before the standard game even releases should be able to be gained within the standard game as you progress.

Nintendo shouldn’t do that shit, neither should anyone else. Just a shame most people don’t stand against it because if it was EA then it would be a different story

at least Amiibos look good and do something else. I mean you can't sit here and say that a cosmetic item like an additional costume really affects you. Not all DLC exists when a game is created.

As I said earlier, not all amiibo is actual game content. Go research what the Smash Bros Amiibos are for. Or what the bulk of them actually do. I think there are only a couple that actually offer any real gameplay benefit.

It's your personal preference of course, but don't act like you speak for everyone. I love my amiibos, but I also love my collectors editions statues (Aloy, Drake, etc)

Amiibos haven't replaced DLC. Check out Splatoon 2 and the constant free stuff they are adding, or Arms with all the new players. Or if you want to look at actual paid DLC, then look at BOTW with the season's pass if you really care to go that route.

to each their own, though. They aren't for everyone. To be honest, the bulk of my amiibos are just for show as I think they look really awesome, especially the BOTW ones.

You said that "amiibos look good and do something else" and then said that not all amiibos have game content. You cannot have it both ways. Either they do something or they don't and if it is the later than Totaku not doing anything shouldn't be a negative in your book.

As for the DLC, that was the argument that fanboys made to justify why amiibo were so great and that was how DLC should be done. Except none of it was DLC, but content locked on the disc. Buying the Mewtwo or Bayonetta amiibo didn't actually give you the DLC to play them - you still had to buy that seperately.

@Gameseeker - well every amiibo does something. I said not all Amiibos have DLC associated with them. That's all. Look at Smash Bros. They act as trainers that you can level up. Some give you cosmetic items or costumes. I think Metroid and Wolf Link are the only ones that actually have any game content associated with them. But people like to pretend like all amiibo lock content behind paywalls.

You must not be too familiar with amiibos if you think Metroid and Wolf Link are the only ones that lock content behind paywalls. Just off the top of my head here are some additional ones I can name -

Splatoon had challenge modes locked by amiibo
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker had hide-and-seek mode locked
Yoshi's Wooly World had double Yoshi locked
Star Fox had the Black Arwing mode locked
Shovel Knight had coop multiplayer locked
Fire Emblem SoV had dungeons locked
Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World had actually locked Poochy - who is in the name of the game - by an amiibo

I can't wait until these people see all the upcoming non-Sony Totaku figures listed in Gamestop's database. Will they say they were wrong and that Sony isn't trying to jump on some "lucrative amiibo train" and instead these are just more licensed figures that we have been seeing since Pac-Man? Of course not. Apparently to fanboys, Nintendo invented both toys-to-life as well as collectible figures and if a company isn't locking a new difficulty mode behind a piece of plastic they are doing something wrong.
