The problem with this thinking is that there is a limited amount of time in school, and for everything schools have to teach, they either have to remove a subject or go into that subject in less depth. In other words, we can only teach so much.

There are some important facts that students need to know, and we teach a lot of those. We don't have the time or ability to teach them all.

There are important skills that students need to have, and we develop some of those. We have to pick and choose. Time spent on one leads to less ability on the other.
