What an absolutely pointless comparison!!!

BVFTW2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

Why? I don't see it as a way to shame the original version, I see it as a way to show how much the game might improve by modern efforts.

I hope this inspire the publisher (Sony) to greenlight a remastered PS4 version as the game still has a following, I would love to play it again on my PS4 as my PS3 died last year the online features of DeS will probably be shut down this year.

If I have to play the game without it's online features, it'll probably be best for me to play it emulated than buying a new system to play my copy, nevertheless, if the game is re-released, I'll support it again.

Cyro2679d ago

Exactly. Why are some people so defensive? The comparison isn't to downplay the PS3.

BVFTW2678d ago

Some people need to feel their choices and opinions validated, that's why those kind of people hate comparisons and that's how the console wars begin, but luckily, there are people that just want to talk about the games, it’s cool how some people can take a game and put it in a different light, is not always better, but it's still cool, modding and emulation can open so much doors and, at the end, they can also have a positive impact in the industry. I'm sure that Nintendo saw what some people where doing with "dolphin" and windwaker, emulating the game beyond its limits (resolution and stuff) that it showed how the art direction was way beyond the console hardware, and with the Wii U in the horizon, Aonuma and his team could've said: We can do better! Let's try what we can do with these console trying to make this game better! And now we have an awesome (proper) remaster of a beutiful game that you could argu that it didn't need one to begin with, but now it's definetly better.

KaaF2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

The hell are you talking about? If there is a new way to play a game, of course I'll want to know how it compares to the original. Not all comparisons are about fanboy morons muscle flexing contest.

Retard2679d ago

Pointless, but fun. Miss that game so much, so much ragequit

Damthatsword2678d ago

your name fits if u think this is pointless.

Cyro2679d ago

It's not really pointless because Demon's Souls was never playable on PC until now through emulation.

LoveSpuds2678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

To all you people that think I am upset about a PS3 game being slighted in some way, I couldn't care in the slightest about the PS3 version of a game looking worse, that's the whole point of my original comment, its utterly pointless.

If the articles author simply intended to demonstrate how good the PC version looks then, as a PC gamer myself, I can get on board with that had he written such a piece. Instead, he offers a comparison to a version of the game that looked rough even by the standards of the day, I mean, what the he'll does that prove exactly?

At the risk of repeating myself, I couldn't care less about defending the PS3 because there is nothing to defend, if people are surprised by the level of improvements that a current day PC offers over a 10+ year old console then they really must be morons.

Holly crap!!! DS REMASTER IMMEDIATELLY SONY!!
The father of Souls deserves this and more.

hulk_bash19872679d ago

Remaster/reboot and full blown sequel after. That would be awesome

kevnb2679d ago

just make the game work on ps4 and render it at a higher resolution, I'm tired of them insulting our intelligence by calling ports "remasters". If a small team can make it work this good on pc there is no reason sony cant do it perfectly on ps4.

k2d2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

Resident Evil RE is what I consider a true remake.

Shadow of the Colussus remake I prefer to think of as a true remaster (they aren't changing much of the gameplay).

The rest I like to think of as ports or re-release. It's good business I guess.

kevnb2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

i would prefer if we didn't call video games "remasters" at all, especially if they are just the same exact game rendered at higher resolution. Only reason why they can even get away with it on consoles is because most console users have no idea how graphics are rendered since they've never had much for graphical options.

Mr_Writer852679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

@Kevnb

If the PC they have it running on is equal or less powerful than a PS4 then you have a point.

But we both know it's not. So stop being a snowflake.

kevnb2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

the cpu on the pc is much more powerful, but everyone knows there is much much less cpu overhead on the consoles. This is how Microsoft can emulate 360 games so well and at higher frame rates on the xbox one using a cpu much less powerful than current intel pc offerings. furthermore, there are no driver optimizations for this emulator at all like there would be for games... so the optimization edge for consoles becomes even wider than it would be in traditional games. Look at how well the psp can do ps1 games, do you think a pc with psp specs can emulate psp games that well?

kevnb2679d ago

Sony is just too anti consumer to do it, its the same reason why they turned off ps2 emulation on the slim ps3s that can be re enabled using custom firmware.

Mr_Writer852678d ago

So why has no one got PS3 games running on PS4?

If it can be done as you claim then surely someone would of done so by now?

LoveSpuds2678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

@kevnb
Actually squire, its perfectly possible to remaster a game, its merely a matter of interpretation of the word. I would suggest that a remaster involving remaking the game using a modern engine, in this instance, the Dark Souls 3 engine for example, would be a fine remaster indeed.

Crash Bandicoot and the upcoming Shadow of the Colossus are perfect examples of remasters where Sony did deliver for the gamer and did not, as you claim, upscaling the resolution because console gamers are too stupid to know better.

LoveSpuds2678d ago

Agreed, a remaster using the DS3 engine would be incredible I think.

Mr_Writer852678d ago

@lovespuds

Stop posting the truth. It doesn't suite his snowflake agenda.

kevnb2679d ago

and this is what publishers would sell to you as a "remaster".

Mr_Writer852678d ago

If it's not a remaster what is it?

OoglyBoogly2679d ago

I guess what I don't get is this...why did the PS3 have such high quality assets (like the textures that look amazing in 4K) when the resolution the game ran at wouldn't even allow them to be seen?

It's like, why didn't they lower texture resolution to free up resources and help performance, especially with the lower amounts of RAM in these last-gen systems?

It's like running a game with 4K textures in 720p...you won't notice the difference so why take the performance hit?

JOHN_DOH2679d ago

It looks like the same textures. The PS3 just has bad aliasing. Maybe they use some kind of aa on PS3 that blurs the screen. The textures are probably lower than 720p also

BVFTW2679d ago

Last gen with 1 Gig of Ram?! That would've been cool as hell! Well, at least I don't have to wonder about that scenario as the Wii U is kind of a 7th gen console with some vitamins, a good example of what the twins could've done with some extra RAM.

MrVux0002678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

"Last gen with 1 Gig of Ram?!"

It had 512 MBs of RAM* (256 MBs of VRAM and 256 MBs of RAM)

Quite impressive indeed.

BVFTW2678d ago

They definitely could've done wonders with that extra RAM, I think that lack of memory was the main reason that the ICO team couldn't deliver the last guardian on the PS3, they had the computational power they needed but with the physics, A.I calculations and the visuals they were aiming at lead them to hit a brick wall. But I guess that price for memory was a concern at the early days of the consoles, especially for PS3 as it had half XDR memory and half DDR.

kevnb2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

the media and pr has completely mislead people on how graphics work. We arent dealing with giant sprites. You could have actual 4k textures, but its not needed. Look up texel density to get a vague idea.

Demon's Souls isn't Soulslike. It's the original Souls game. WTF? And Elden Ring?

Another Crab's Treasure simply is not.

All the journos claiming things are "Soulslike" simply don't know what that word means.

GeeEssEff86d ago

The term “Soulslike” has become ridiculously diluted. I have seen it used for games just because they are difficult.

Cacabunga86d ago

Reminds me of Doom like back in the days for every FPS game

blackblades86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Yeah, souls, souls lite, souls like same goes for rogue.

anast85d ago

It's either AI or the writer doesn't know the subject matter.

robtion86d ago

I've played all of these bar the Crab one so not a very accurate title.

Goodguy0186d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Nioh 1+2 imo are the best souls clone. Love the melee combat and ki system, really hoping team ninja doesn't abandon the IP and continue with a new title, hell just give us your take on the western fantasy setting for a new nioh game.

robtion85d ago

Yes Nioh 2 in particular is great. Also Wo Long (which is basically Nioh 3).

qalpha85d ago

Should have included 'Lies of P'. Seriously fun game.

Nacho_Z85d ago

That's what I was going to say, great game. Best non From Soulslike I've played.

I see absolutely no difference with base performance mode..

MrWood180d ago

Well yeah it tells you the difference— 1440p vs 4k for 60fps. You have to watch the video in 4k to see the difference.

dantesparda181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

Wukong actually performs worst in performance mode, wtf!

And wheres the damn update for this game. They're still more work to be done.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH181d ago

I saw Zero noticeable difference when I played it on Pro. The only game I’ve seen significant difference in is FF7RB but now I get these stutters after the Pro update. I can safely say that if you don’t have a PS5 then getting the Pro is a no brainer but upgrading from PS5 to Pro is not a wise move as of now. Wait for better new games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH180d ago

So you’re telling me that I DONT have a PS5 Pro and you’re telling me that I DONT have Demon’s Souls and you’re telling me that I DID in fact see a different in a game that according to you I don’t have? Im assuming you’re one of the lucky few who owns a Pro saw a major Difference in Demon’s Souls right?

This list has nine games....

And if these are the "hardest", that's a bit alarming because I'm pretty average and I've managed to 100% more than a third of this list (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Hard Corps Uprising, and Catherine).
